INTRODUCTION
Human resource management is mainly concerned with the management of employees within the organizations, focusing on policies and systems (Collings, D. G, & Wood, G,2009, pp. 1-16). The policies of Human Resource Management varies from organisation to organisation which is aligned to the goals of the company or business strategy. Therefore, these policies are essential for an
organisation as they provide structure, fairness, consistency, control and reasonableness. The main aim of HRM policies is to ensure compliance with employment legislation and to inform employees about their responsibilities and the company’s expectation. HRM policies include organisational ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility which helps to cultivate a positive work culture in the organisation. Let us have a detailed look about the importance of HRM policies:
Organizational Structure: HRM policies is crucial as it serves as a guideline for employer-employee relation or communication ,work ethics, employment laws, work schedule, disciplinary measures appropriate work behaviour, conflict resolution and health and safety measures. Therefore, it provides a complete structure to the organisation so that the company runs in an organised manner. Hence organisational ethics consist of those HRM policies which deals with the code of conduct of every employees in the organisation.
Legal Issues: HRM policies are constructed to prevent litigation, charges and grievances as much as possible, in case any problematic situation arises in the work place. The policies are structured in such a way that it is complied with the laws and regulations of a country. Hence, Corporate Social Responsibilities plays an important part when legal and social issues are concerned. HRM policies are crucial for smooth running of operations and therefore all the policies and legal implications are informed to the employees so to ensure order and safety in an organisation.
The following points show why policies and procedures are important for the human resource management process.
· HRM policies of an organisation helps to identify the rights of the employees and ensures that every employees are respected and required benefits are provided to them for their work.
· HRM policies helps employees to address the grievances, complaints and problems of the employees and thereby helps to solve the problem accordingly.
· HRM policies direct the employees to behave in a certain professional way and hence protects the employees from wrong behaviour from other colleagues or even from the company itself.
· HRM policies help to conduct training sessions and thereby ensures growth of the employees in and organisation.
· HRM policies consists of rules and regulation of the organisation which directs the employees to maintain discipline in the workplace.
· HRM policies helps employees to receive proper compensation and also identify eligible employees for paid vacations and holidays.
How does HRM policies promote responsible business practices?
As we have already discussed, HR departments are responsible for monitoring employee recruitment, employee-benefits design, performance appraisal, training and development, and reward management, such as managing pay and benefit systems (Paauwe, J., & Boon, C.,2009, pp. 38-54) Therefore, HRM policies helps to promote responsible business practices and it is formed based on two part 1) organisational ethics and 2) corporate social responsibility. Here we are going to discuss the three most important HRM policies i.e training, recruitment and selection with respect to organisational ethics and corporate social responsibility.
