2. According to me, culture is a basic set of attitudes, beliefs, and values shared by a community in a society. Some values in one culture might not be acceptable for the other culture. These values not only influence an individual’s behaviour, but towards the society and community members. Respecting and cherishing one’s culture is good but I strongly believe that this should hinder the humanity. People must accept the beauty, good value, and try to correct the flaws of the culture, rather than following the practices blindly. We must not stereotype anyone and be humble.
Activity 3D
1. Language interpreters can convey the messages from the speakers to the listeners by converting one language to another. While, cultural interpreters can the shape the exchange the messages on the grounds of culture. With Jen, there is no problem in understanding English language, but she cannot relate to the culture. Culture interpreters can look at the conversion in terms of the culture and decide whether it goes with the cultural values or not. Jen needs a cultural interpreter so that she can link with others better, convey her thoughts and id
eologies. This will help her to express her feelings better, and will have a positive impact on her health.
Role play 1
Scenario one
Worker: Your dressing style reminds me of the 90s. I would never dare to relive that moment. The way you say thank you makes me laugh sometimes.
CLAD client: Ohh! I believe this is rude.
Worker: I didn’t mean to be rude. It was trying to give you a laugh. I know this might be common among our culture, but for us, this is somewhat different. I am sorry if I offended you.
CLAD client: You know I actually feel attacked now.
Worker: Please don’t be. I am actually appreciating it. It is good to know that you are following your culture and proud of that.
Me: You know that social and cultural diversity might lead to miscommunication and misunderstanding amongst the people belonging to same area. It is necessary that the worker must understand the sincerity of the cultural views of the CALD client. Meanwhile, the client need to be sure that the worker didn’t mean to be rude. Such behaviour can be analysed by studying the body language of the speaker. Still, if it is offensive for the client, it is important that they must clarify it.
Role play 2
Scenario two
Shomer Negiah restricts Jewish men and women from sexual urges in the form of physical contact with the opposite sex. Under such conditions, men or women politely decline any physical contact. This must seem quite offensive to the female worker because she doesn’t know this aspect of Jewish culture. It is necessary that firstly she must respect the client’s wish. If she is curious enough, she can politely ask him for the same. Under such conditions, cultural differences can bring out misunderstanding among the people. It is important to accept the traditions and the emotions of others.
Case study 2 (Resolving difference)
Firstly, I will ask the Asian man to sit on a comfortable chair and offer him a glass of water. It is of no use to talk to a person who is in full of anguish. After he calms down, I will ask him what is wrong. It is not permissible to force someone but for the sake of the child, it becomes necessary to know the root cause of his anger. If the anger is genuine, and the child is at fault, I will discuss it with the child politely. I will listen to both the sides, and decide to take the correct measure based upon the situation. I will even ask them not to discuss the matter anymore to avoid more clashes and hurt. I will guide the man to be patient with the child. Since, the man cannot understand English much, I will take help of a language interpreter or cultural interpreter to understand the cultural significance of the problem. I will offer solutions after evaluating the cultural values.
2. The mediator helps to resolve the issues by translating the exact sense and meaning of the conversation amongst the speaker and the listeners. This is necessary because sometimes even body language can be misinterpreted. The culturally appropriate guidelines help to link the gap between the ideologies. This reduces not only the differences but also the misunderstandings. Although some cultural practices might not be acceptable or offensive to others, but the mediators can help others to understand the context and importance of some values.

Individualised care helps to decide a treatment plan considering the body type, routine, and interests of the client. This not only fastens the improvement, but also makes the client happier. By targeting the personal needs of client like a companion, or reading books, or preferences like sitting in the open space turn out to be effective for the treatment. Under such conditions, I can provide them assistance in recreation, and socializing, decide the schedule of their medicines, and promoting them to follow a fitness regime. The client can be awarded for some achievements, and asked to strictly follow some rules. The clients can be asked to evaluate the success of the individualised care and their suggestions. We can discuss and reach on a common ground for their betterment. It is necessary for them to understand the importance of this individualised care plan. The clinical management of patients now include integrated care by implementing the individualized care plans by offering personalised and targeted care.

By bringing them closer to their culture, I can improve their health. This can be done by a little search about their community and cultural programs. I can request the community members to add the client in their program. This seems not to be tough. I can even offer assistance to the client while they suffer from anxiety. I can offer them to go on a trip with me, if they want to feel the fresh air.
