Issue Identified
The sustainability issue identified is land pollution and the same represents the various forms of pollution happening t
o land resources on account of various reasons.
Introduction
At present, the planet faced wide ranging sustainability issues and among them land contamination represents a key concern that has led to the creation imbalance over the natural environment deteriorating habitats, causing health and other adverse implications. On the basis of preliminary review of relevant literature indicates that anthropogenic activities chiefly cause land pollution in the manner of releasing substances / materials that are toxic, harmful and are essentially hazardous pollutants leading to wide ranging impacts on the overall natural environment inclusive of land all across the globe (Artiola et al. 2019; Larkin et al. 2017; Vadrevu et al. 2017). The land contamination further leads to various adverse damages, hazards, and other problems to overall ecological systems as well as health / well-being of beings, and the same represents critical challenge for modern society and future generation in terms of increased trends in contamination as well as pollution of natural lands across the globe. The era of industrialization, its spawn, evolution and maturity led to significant impacts on a large scale causing widespread contamination of lands, leading to large-scale land pollution as well as pollution of ground water (Artiola et al. 2019; Larkin et al. 2017; Vadrevu et al. 2017).
Further, on account of poor management, disposal and lack of recycling of wastes, pollution of land continued to increase due to dumping of substances / materials that are toxic and hazardous, there in causing adverse impacts over the years. These contamination and pollution impact of land are not limited to further contamination of surface water, groundwater and overall environment, but in addition leads to soil vapor has which in turn holds the potential for additional contamination by way of infiltration to residential, commercial and other indoor spaces (Artiola et al. 2019; Larkin et al. 2017; Vadrevu et al. 2017). This report presents a detailed discussion in terms of land pollution focussing on the relevant stakeholders, development of their requirements, the various challenges pertaining to land pollution and its mitigation possibilities.
