System and Network Administration Fall 2021 Page 1 of 2 Homework Project 1 Part 1 You have just begun a new position as Network Administrator for Superhero Enterprises. The organizational chart for the enterprise is shown in the attached file HW1_OrgChart.jpg. After study of the organizational chart, you have decided to install Active Directory on a Windows Server 2019. The Executive Producer is a bit of a Luddite, so no technology has been available to support his two teams, The Boys and the Seven, so far. He’s happy for you to bring his company into the twenty-first century. There are a couple of things you should know about the teams: • The Executive Producer believes in a competitive, not collaborative, environment. Performance bonuses are only available to the highest performing team. • Each team has independent goals, but does share knowledge of financials for the enterprise. • Billy and John, the two CEOs, are cutthroat competitors. Each will steal knowledge from the other if given the opportunity. Your objectives are to: • Set up a single domain Active Directory with appropriate organizational units, computer, and user accounts. • Set up groups and group policies. • All work (data and files) is stored on the network. An individual at a higher level in the hierarchy have access to all work accomplished by individuals below him/her. • Delegate administration of the Logistics organizational unit to Kevin Moskowitz. • Secure the files of each team from the other team. Turn in the following: • A network diagram (produced using any drawing tool). • A narrative description of your implementation plan. • Any screenshots of Server 2019 work that shows evidence that you have set up Active Directory in accordance with your network diagram, and that your network meets the stated objectives above. Part 2 The Executive Producer has decided to add 5 people to support “Teen Development” and 5 people to support “Hero Management.” Turn in the following: • A .csv file created in Excel with the data needed to add users to the Network. New users should be forced to change passwords at login. • Using PowerShell ISE, write a PowerShell script to import data from the .csv file. Turn in a screenshot of the PowerShell script. • Proof of execution of the script (something showing the new users have been added). System and Network Administration Fall 2021 Page 2 of 2 Part 3 Starlight has just given notice and has threatened to share all of her work with the Boys. Write a procedure for ensuring network safety as she leaves the organization. Part 4 Create a fine-grained password policy for each of the groups. Apply those policies. Provide evidence that you have completed these tasks. Part 5 You now need to set up shares with permissions for Superhero Enterprises. To do that, you’ll need to install the PDS role using Server Manager. Then evaluate the shares necessary for Superhero Enterprises, using the organizational chart. Then: • Create the necessary shares. • Using File Explorer, view the Effective Permissions tab for all shares to ensure effective permissions are assigned as you intended. • Map drive letters to all shares on your network. • Create home directories for all users. • Create “roaming profiles share: the easy way” (follow the process beginning on p. 1282 of your text. Turn in the following: • A written summary of intended effective permissions for all users for all shares. • Screenshots demonstrating assignment of permissions. • Screenshot of Windows Explorer left hand side panel after mapping all drives. • Screenshot of Security tab for one user’s home directory (see Fig. 26.11 in text) • Two screenshots, one with profiles shared folder location (see Fig. 26.14) and one with the share name for the profile (see Fig. 26.15). Part 6 By now, you’ve figured out the Superhero Enterprises network, but you are finding you want to make your work more efficient. You’re curious about the Distributed File System (DFS). After installing the DFS role with the DFS Namespace, DFS Replication, and File Server Resource Manager services (found under File and iSCSI Services under the File and Storage Services role), create a DFS standalone root. Turn in the following: • Screenshot of “Review Settings and Create Namespace” dialog box and “Confirmation” screen (see p. 742 in text). • An explanation of the purpose of DFS and how you might use it in a real-world scenario.

When it comes to protection against phishing, knowledge is not half the battle - it is real protection. Make sure your business information is secure for all employees, including information about phishing attacks prevention and social planning, and red flags that they can monitor via email and phone. If you have a Business Support Desk, make sure your employees submit all password issues to the IT system, without having to go directly from the vendor to a specific program. This way, employees will not be tempted to reach out to the fraudster by phone or email.
It is also important to set licensing rules for guests, sellers, buyers, interviewers, supervisors, and other guests inside and outside the building. Make sure all guests are checked, searched and identified and inform your new receptionist or office manager when and where they will be accepted.
The procedure followed by the company should be: -
