Views is so popular that it has become a powerful, stock module in Drupal 8 core. There is not one true way to go about this, but you will demonstrate using Views in your site. The basic steps for this lab are: 1. Make sure you have Views installed (in Drupal version 8, it comes installed under your modules) 2. Configure the Permissions for Views for your site. 3. Create a new View to display some content on your home screen. If you need to create some placeholder content such as a mock news or blog article set to use, do so at this time. (Or if you want to do it a cool way, check out the Devel (https://www.drupal.org/project/devel) module!) 4. Your new View can be a block or page. SHOW YOUR WORK A note on screen videos: silent films (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpjEyBKSfJQ) are not boring, but you are not Charlie Chaplin either. Don't be afraid to chat a bit over your screen video and explain what you are working on. Once you have your new View up and running, you will want to show your work. Use a video screen share software to record a brief tour of your working Drupal web site with the new View. Show how the View works. (A few screen cast software options are listed here.) Once you have things working correctly and you have a screen video prepared that shows your work, turn the video file in. If you used Jing, for example, and hosted your video on their free service, simply paste in your url so we can view it. If you used ScreenFlow, for example, and exported your file to mp4, you can upload the video using the video icon in the text editor or you can host the video on YouTube or other free services and then post your url to your screen cast so we can view it. COMPLETED LECTURES Turn in a screen capture of your completed (viewed) lectures for this week. Simply take a quick screen capture of the screen once you have viewed all lectures. Here is an example image: https://www.drupal.org/project/views https://www.drupal.org/project/devel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpjEyBKSfJQ https://psu.instructure.com/courses/2042352/pages/showing-your-work-with-screencasts https://psu.instructure.com/courses/2042352/pages/showing-proof-of-lectures 4/6/2020 Topic: L10: Drupal Views Lab & Discussion https://psu.instructure.com/courses/2042352/discussion_topics/12856351 2/2 Replies are only visible to those who have posted at least one reply. Completed lectures = 5 pts. A written explanation of what you did with Views, how you set it up and were you successful = 5 pts. Total: 20 pts. The basic steps of this lab will be: 1. Research a fitting theme (https://www.drupal.org/project/project_theme) for your site, decide which theme works best. This is your base theme. 2. Install the base theme and get it working properly. 3. Create a child theme based on your base theme. 4. Install and enable the child theme so that it is working properly on your site. Show Your Work Once you have your Drupal child theme up and running, you will want to show your work. Use a video screen share software to record a brief tour of your working Drupal web site with the new theme installed. If you are experimental you can add some place-holder content, but we'll get to that later. For now, show us that you have a working site up and ready to use. (A few screen cast software options are here.) What to Turn In Once your Drupal theme is installed and working correctly and you have a screen video prepared that shows your work, turn the video file in. Discussion and Feedback Discuss briefly how this process went for you. Did you set out with discreet goals for your theme? Were you looking for something in particular? Explain with a few sentences. Next, check out your peers' work. Offer some feedback to a classmate or two around the theme they chose.
