1. Executive summary
The ROI Company is already providing its services in area of digital devices. The implementation of online platform will help ROI to increase its customer bases and respective sales. The online platform will allow ROI to easily handle their customers and respective requests to purchase different items. The single repository of this online platform will allow its customers to get all updates as per their requirements of different products. The implementation of online platform to ROI Company include implementation of SQL server, FTP server, mail server, DNS server and web server. The separate implementation of each such server provides high efficiency and portability in operations. But implementation of this infrastructure will lead to high cost to ROI Company. Thus, developing a virtual environment to maintain all these services is recommended in this report. There are different virtualization tools like Hyper V, VMWare VSphere, Xen etc. which can easily develop the required virtual environment for ROI. The implementation cost of required costly hardware’s can easily be saved through development of virtualization environment from any of these tools. The increased customer base of 15% can also be easily handled by the virtual environment. The connectivity to new office in Perth can also be easily maintained by the virtual environment. The implementation of VDI will allow easy operation in head office and branch office of ROI. The implementation and setup of virtual environment can easily be archived through available virtualization tools. The reduced cost and improved consistency in operations and 24*7 availability of online platform for ROI to sell its products can be archived. Each virtualization tool has its own properties and qualities, thus, on bases of evaluation matrix, the required recommendations to ROI Company are being made. The issues related to remote support to branch office, software update, redundancy and security are mainly considered for making the recommendation of required virtualization tool to ROI.
2. Problem statement
The ROI Company is currently planning to implement an online platform for handling its customers. The implementation of virtual environment requires consideration of different problems and possible problem statements for this virtualization environment implementation at ROI are explained below:
i. Security: The implementation of online system for ROI will face security issues. Each online store faces security issues. Providing secured transactions is main challenge for maintaining operational success at ROI. The security breach can cause huge losses to ROI. Thus, security issues must be considered on priority bases for implementation of required virtual environment of online platform for ROI.
ii. Redundancy: The implementation of online platform for ROI requires high redundancy and consistency in its operations. It is possible that global users can place their orders on any time, thus, the virtual platform must provide high redundancy and consistency in its operations to its customers. With improved redundancy and consistency, the easy connectivity to branch office in Perth can also be maintained.
iii. Remote support: As the case shows that ROI is planning to open a new office in Perth, so, the remote operation support is required. Virtualization provides support for remote operations but consistency of remote operations in virtual environment is highly challenging. The operations of branch office will create extra load on the head office environment. So, maintaining and providing high level remote support to branch office operations is highly challenging and it must be addressed properly.
