“I, Too” and “I Have a Dream Analysis”

There are two central purposes of this essay:

Analysis of Rhetoric and Style

Discuss the rhetorical strategies employed in Martin’s Luther King Jr’s speech. How does he use rhetorical strategies to appeal to his listeners? What stylistic elements does King use to make his speech more eloquent? Compare that to the strategies used in Langston Hughes “I, Too” poem. Being a poem it may not rely on rhetorical strategies, but again, compare the stylistic elements presented. In your essay, be sure to include textual support with specific line references to support your claims.

Treatment of Dreams

Both the speech and the poem rely heavily on the subject of dreams. Define how each author uses dreams as subjects and define what the central theme in each text is. Then, compare and contrast these two pieces of work.
