Critical incident analysis helps you look beyond the experience of the incident to the meaning of the incident. A critical incident is an incident on placement that has significance to you. It can be an event that made you stop and think, or one that raised questions about your organisation, its people or processes, or about your interaction(s) within the organisation. It may have made you question an aspect of your beliefs, values, attitude or behaviour. It is an incident which in some way has had a significant impact on your personal and professional development. Students will also assess the organisation’s ability to adapt to change and whether the critical incident has led, or should lead to, change. This will be assessed via the following: SCENARIO ANALYSIS (CRITICAL INCIDENT) - DUE SUN BY 11.59PM WK 8 You have progressed in your placement, critical incidents will have occurred that have had an impact on your personal and professional development. Such critical incidents represent opportunities for reflection, analysis and learning. Introduction
Critical Incident analysis is a theory, which was given by Tripp in 1993. This technique has helped students to develop professional practices and judgements about them. It follows a structured format through which sequential sharing of information is encouraged. As a learner, I am sharing my experience of a critical incident, which I faced at workplace. This helped me to explore the ins and outs of the industry and become more diligent towards my work. It has given me opportunity to evolve as a future manager professionally while being ethical at the same time.
Account of the Critical Incident
In the middle of year 2021 the second lockdown was announced and as a logistics intern it was my first exposure to such incident. During the first lockdown, I was at my home and waiting for my parcels to arrive but this time I was responsible for their timely delivery. While sitting on the other side of table one cannot imagine the importance of reaching a parcel on time. As a logistics intern I am supposed to ensure that parcel reach the right address while managing them in every possible way such as planning, organising, to protect them from damage and scheduling their deliveries.
The incident is about a daily need grocery consignment, which is supposed to be delivered at an old age home. It was ordered by an entrepreneur as a support to the NGO during lockdown. It was ordered on 30th April 2021 through Shoprite. It directed the delivery responsibility to Ziticity, a logistics and distribution partner where I work as logistics intern. During lockdown, many such orders were placed who were capable enough to support others but this order was different. This order was in small quantities and there were about 200 same parcels of small size. Though all were named to same address, there number (in terms of quantity) was huge to manage. The problem arose when these parcels were missed.
The event came to notice prior to day of delivery. As a logistics intern when I was questioned about the location of the parcels in the warehouse, I was having no clue about where they could be. It was significant because I was responsible for their management. The incident made me practice the communication and management skills and make critical decisions at the time when the team around me was panicked due to misplace of the 200 parcels lot.
Initial Responses to the Critical Incident
When I came to know about the incident I was shocked because I was diligently recording the entries and making sure that no parcel are missed and why did this 200 parcel was miss from my notice. The time...
