For healthcare systems, the nurses and patients are the core components who will be influenced directly by any leadership style adopted by the nurses. The transformational leader is believed to be a pioneer. Such a leader motivates the followers to work at their highest capability. The transformational leader guides and provide am alteration in recognition. This leadership included five sub-categories, namely, inspirational motivation, individual consideration, intellectual stimulation, idealized influence in behavior, and attributes. As per the definitions, a transactional leader is capable in the role of a caregiver, focused on daily operation. Nevertheless, major studies have pointed out the correlation between transformational leadership and nursing or healthcare practices (Huber, 2017). There are many barriers to the proper development of leadership qualities and activities, including heavy workload on the professional, lack of training and strategies, and any other gaps at the organizational level (Elliot, 2017).
The association between diverse leadership ways and their consequences on the nurses’ work and workforce atmosphere have been investigated. The results of this study also report the effectiveness of relational leadership styles to drive better organizational as well as nursing staff outputs. The other leadership styles that merely concentrate on completion of the task, are not as effective for nursing professionals as they need to display consistency in their dedication and duties towards patient care. For example, the ineffective leadership exhibited by a laissez-faire leader increase absenteeism and stress of the nurses, thereby increasing their tendency to take leaves (Cope & Murray, 2017).
