Introduction
Communication is the process of sharing ideas and information so as to conduct business ope
rations smoothly (Hargie, 2016). The essay focuses on various aspects regarding an effective business communication. It is necessarily a two-way process that involves listening as well as speaking. Communication can be inferred as the lifeline of any organization because no business operation is possible without communication. Hence, it is very essential for all the companies to incorporate a system of effective communication for smooth functioning of all its operations.
All such aspects are covered in the easy bifurcated under various sections that include the importance of weekly lectures taken on the topic followed by a literature review on Public Speaking. Furthermore, written communication through emails and internal organizational communication are highlighted from the perspective of applying them for future career.
Main Body
Section 1: Identification and explanation of the importance of weekly concepts learned.
Week 1
The Week one concepts covered Professional Communication and Ethics. It explained that professional communication is done intentionally while aiming to achieve strategic goals targeted by the organization that are to be achieved within a pre-decided period of time (Hoffman, Mnisi & Ngcongo, 2016). This includes oral, written as well as visual communication within an organization. Moreover, the importance of following a code of ethics is also highlighted. I found it very helpful in understanding the day-to-day communication errors we tend to make without realizing them which eventually creates misunderstandings or conveys the wrong message to the other party. Most importantly I realized that following the code of ethics keeps a check on the intentionally or unintentionally occurred most common communication errors and how to manage them effectively.
Week 2
The concepts in this week highlight the aspects in relation to non-verbal communication. It helped me in understanding that while we are engaged in non-verbal form of communication, we convey three general types of messages. Firstly, it conveys the message as to who we are implying identity messages. Secondly, it helps in defining the kind of relationship shared between the parties communicating with each other. Thirdly, emotions are also conveyed by way of non-verbal communication (Hyland, 2014). Moreover, it helped me in understanding that the degree to which emotions are conveyed is closely tied up with the culture. Thus, I was able to improve my non-verbal communication.
Week 3
From the concepts delivered in the third week, I got to learn a lot of aspects related to email. Email is the most common and widely used form of written communication across the globe. But a most common mistake committed by majority of the population is failing to identify the difference between professional and interpersonal emails (Ladegaard & Jenks, 2015). This creates an adverse impact on the receiver especially on professional grounds. In addition to these, I learned the importance of following the chain of command and abstain from breaking it unless and until the workplace ethical conduct and standards are hampered.
Week 4
The concept that helped me to grow in this week was regarding academic writing. This helped me a lot in demonstrating the knowledge acquired by me so far on the subject matter and also enabled me to incorporate a better understanding of the knowledge acquired by such study (Liu, Volcic & Gallois, 2014). This helped me to understand the academic audience due to which I can plan my content with respect to the audiences. Moreover, there are set guidelines present that are required to present various genres of academic writing. Therefore, I need to first identify my audience and formulate my work as per their...
