II. PROBLEM In Assessment 2, you designed the LANs and IP addressing schemes for the network. In this assessment, you will accomplish the other tasks which will make this complete network work. In this assessment, your primary tasks are: 1) Designing/Selecting a WAN connection to provide fast, reliable but inexpensive Internet access. 2) Setting up routing such that all LANs can communicate with each other and have Internet access. 3) Select and design the model for the application(s) required to fulfill the requirements explicitly stated in the case study. 4) Rectify any issues that your new design causes with your design in Assessment 2. The complete network should work in cohesion. 5) Draw the logical topology of the complete network with IP addresses and interfaces labeled. Of course, all these designs should follow the requirements and principles laid out in the case study. Let us look at each task in a little more detail: A. WAN Internet Connection Everyone at the office requires Internet access. The choice of the Internet connection must keep in mind the requirements of each of the LANs and any other uses of the Internet. You can assume that Network Address Translation (NAT) comes pre-configured in the router that comes with the Internet connection you select. You can also assume that Public IPv4 addresses come with the Internet connection. B. Routing You need to establish routing to make sure there is connectivity between the LANs, and to make sure that all the hosts on the LAN can access the Internet. If your design includes dynamic routing, then give the routing protocol going to be utilized. C. Application Design You need to select the applications to fulfill the requirements for email and video conferencing. You will also need to select the model(s) of how the applications are utilized and how they fit in the overall network design. 1 Ammar Zafar S1, 2020 D. Update of Assessment 2 Designs There may have been some mistakes in your Assessment 2 design and/or your Assessment 3 may not be compatible with your Assessment 2 design. Hence, you need to update your Assessment 2 design and make sure that the complete netwoek makes sense and fulfills all its requirements. Any design changes in Assessment 2 need to highlighted in red font, i.e written in red font so that they stand out and can be easily identified. Also, you need to give the reasons why your Assessment 2 design changed which also need to be highlighted in red font. In case there are no changes from the design in Assessment 2, state it explicitly in red font. E. Logical Topology Diagram You need to provide a logical topology diagram of the complete network including the WAN connection tot he ISP. All the subnetworks should be clearly identified with their IP addresses, and all devices shown with connected interfaces labeled with both their type and number (e.g S0/0/0), and IP addresses (both IPv4 and IPv6). III. SUBMISSION GUIDELINE You will submit your complete network design in the form of a report which thoroughly details the reasons for decisions made, as well as the actual decisions made. The report should follow a logical structure and be easy to follow. Jargon-laden and difficult to follow reports will not be looked upon favourably. The total length of the report is 2000 words. In addition you should include a Title Page, Contents Page and a page listing all references. These additional pages are not to be included in this word count. Be sure to number all pages in your report. DO NOT INCLUDE APPENDICIES. The Title Page should have the following information: • Unit code • Unit name • Case Study Title (You can choose any appropriate title you desire.) • Word count • Student name • Student ID An Executive Summary is also required, and should be no more than 200 words. This is in addition to the 2000 word report. All information sources must be appropriately acknowledged and a full bibliography is required. References should follow the IEEE format. There are two links provided for Assessment 3 submission: 1) Turnitin link, 2) Assignment Submission link. You have to submit the same report to both links. If they are not the same or you don’t submit in both links, you automatically receive a Fail. The Turnitin submission will be used to check for academic misconduct while the Assignment Submission link will be used for marking purposes. The report should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document through the Turnitin link. The word document should be named named ‘[Your last name] [Your student ID].docx’(quotations marks not included). For example, if I submitted the file it would be named Zafar 123456.docx. IV. ADVICE You should have more confidence in your problem solving and report writing advice for Assessment 3 as you have done similar assessment before. Nevertheless, there are new challenges 2 Ammar Zafar S1, 2020 top overcome. Also, learning from one mistakes also takes time. So, please get started on this assessment as soon as possible. The general approach remains the same: STart with something you and is relatively easy and slowly build up to final solution. Do not wait till the last two weeks to start the assessment. As usual you are encouraged to discuss the assessment with your fellow students and teachers. But you must develop your own solution and write your own report. V. MARKING A marking rubric is provided with the assessment. We will mark the assessment holistically. What this means is that overall your solution should make sense and effectively solves the problem. Individual parts of the solution might be good on their own but overall may not work together, hence, making the solution ineffective. We want you to be able to effectively solve the problem. You should not look at each criteria in isolation. Almost all criteria depend on each other. To take an example, you may have the best report presentation but if everything in it is wrong, it does not matter and you will not gain any marks. This reflects the real-world where solutions should work. The layout of the rubric cannot capture this effect but you need to be aware that it is there. Your grade for the assessment will reflect how your overall solution tackles the given problems for this assessment.
