Introduction You are required to complete an online quiz and a project for CHCECE022 Promote children’s agency. In completing the final assessments, you will show evidence of your ability to: · establish a learning environment that reflects children’s interests · provide opportunities that stimulate learning and development · design, implement and evaluate learning experiences for children · support children to participate. Assessment number Assessment deliverables 31879/01 Online quiz 31879/02 Project 31879/02 Project Student instructions To complete this assessment task, you need to create a portfolio that provides information to guide improvements to an early childhood education and care service to promote children’s agency. To guide the development of your portfolio, consider this scenario: You are working for a service in your local community that is staffed by caring, responsible educators committed to providing the best possible opportunities for the children in their care. However, the service’s physical environment is old, outdated and in need of improvements. A common topic in staff meetings is the lack of resources and the inflexibility of the environment. Recently you have received the good news that the service has received a community grant. After a lively staff meeting that involved community members, family representatives, and feedback from the children at the service, it is decided to put the grant towards upgrading the learning environment for children. The service director wants the learning environments to reflect best practice standards and requirements and to focus on expressing the service philosophy. You have been asked by the service director to put together a portfolio of information to contribute to planning for improvements. You are interested in and have done a lot of research online about current trends and ideas about designing learning environments and promoting children’s agency. With this in mind, you excitedly get to work. Your portfolio will be presented for discussion at a stakeholder meeting, so it needs to be clear, easy to read and professionally presented. Steps for completing this Project For this project, use the scenario above as the basis for your fictional portfolio. Put together a portfolio of documents that guides the service, outlined in the scenario above, to encourage children’s agency through improvements to the learning environment. You can make this portfolio as creative as you wish, but keep in mind that the intended audience is a wide range of stakeholders - including community members, families, colleagues and children. Your portfolio can be a combination of written documents and images. Your portfolio must address the following elements: a) describes your approach to promoting children’s agency including short quotations from: · the National Quality Standards · the National Quality Framework · two relevant secondary sources (e.g. early childhood expert articles). b) provides a short description of intentional teaching and how this promotes children’s agency c) describes two indoor learning environments that are vibrant, flexible and support children’s learning and sense of agency d) describes two outdoor learning environments that are vibrant, flexible and support children’s learning and sense of agency e) provides a list of resources and materials to stock each learning environment, specifically focusing on materials that are natural and familiar f) provides a description of how these environments are flexible enough to respond to the interests and abilities of a wide range of children g) provides a description of how your portfolio could be presented so that it is appropriate for all stakeholders including children. For some inspiration on learning environments that promote children’s agency, take a look at the following design proposal: Ponti, G 2008, A flexible school for early childhood education in Italy, PEB Exchange, http://www.oecd.org/italy/40802232.pdf Open Colleges CHCECE022 Promote children’s agency Page 6 of 6

Portfolio for Proposed Changes
Introduction to Our facility- Santa Daycare
At Santa Daycare, we care for each child like our own.
Our service has been extremely prudent in providing the best care to our children. We have always considered them, their families and our staff as a s
ingle unified large family. While the learning curricula and philosophy of our service has been top-notch, due to financial constraints, we have been lacking in providing the most modern and considerate physical environment to our children.
The good news is that we have been provided with $$$ as grant to upgrade our service. I am extremely thankful for the grant provided to our service and hope we can make the best changes possible to make our physical learning environment more conducive and lively just like our social environment has been.
This portfolio has been designed to propose the recommended changes to the environment of the facility. I hope everyone considers it carefully.
Thank you
Sadhana
General Information on Proposed Changes linked to Standards and Frameworks
We want to make sure that the changes we make are in compliance with the National Quality Standards set by the government. So keeping in line with these requirements, I propose to make the following major changes-
Need for increase in resources
We would like to increase the resources available for play for children as these have often been discussed to be lacking. (This idea is supported by NQS – Quality Area 3: Physical Environment. Element - 3.2.2 Resources, materials and equipment are sufficient in number and organised in ways that ensure appropriate and effective implementation of the program / curriculum and allow for multiple uses)
Increasing flexibility of environment
Since our learning environment is quite rigid, we would like to make the environment more flexible through introducing innovative outdoor play areas. This is supported by EYLF’s guide for learning environments (EYLF, pg. 15). This is in addition to NQS- Quality Area 3: Physical Environment, Element - 3.1.3 Facilities are designed or adapted to ensure access and participation by every child in the service and to allow flexible use, and interaction between indoor and outdoor space
Increasing opportunity for individual and shared experiences
Making changes in the indoor and outdoor environments to increase opportunity for both individual and shared experience for each child in compliance with NQS- Quality Area 3- Physical Environment, Element - 3.2.1 Outdoor and indoor spaces are designed and organised to engage every child in quality experiences in both built and natural environments. In addition, it is also in compliance with FSAC Practice: Environment (FSAC, p.15)
While keeping these three highlighted changes in view, I propose the following changes in...
