First assignment of my automobile engineering course, unfortunately I′m working full time for the next weeks o I′d struggle to finish this.

Essentially with this assignment we are given a scenario and 3 tasks, each task is made up of explaining in your own words how certain parts of the internal combustion engine works, some of these tasks ask for written explanations and some ask for illustrations.

Each task requires evidence to be shown such as:

• Your evidence should be presented in the form of a report which contains detail introduction of each task

• Explain with necessary diagrams.

• Evidence Hard copy to be submitted Evidence soft copy to be submitted

The brief explains each task in detail and what is expected.

I′ve also included the instructions sheet and a sample report that I was given to see the structure they expect.

They have asked to list references at the end of the report too.

CONCRETE FRAME STRUCTURES Concrete frame structures are a very common - or perhaps the most common - type of modern building internationally. CONCRETE FRAME STRUCTURES LOAD BEARING MASONRY STEEL FRAME STRUCTURES LIGHT GAUGE STEEL WOOD FRAMED STRUCTURES PRE ENGINEERED BUILDINGS 10 | P a g e Frame System Slab-Column System with Shear WallLarge Panel System Types of Precast Systems The following are major types of precast systems which are classified based on the load bearing structure as shown below: Precast Concrete Construction Procedure 1. After the completion of construction preparations, the layout of the structure is set. 2. Then, the foundation of the columns is constructed as shown below 3. After that, the columns are placed using suitable machines, and continuously checked by surveyor for alignment. In the case of Frame system and slab-column system with shear wall. Alternatively, precast panels are installed in the case of large panel system. 11 | P a g e 4. Beams for precast frames, and precast floors in the case of large panel systems and column- slab systems are placed. 5. For precast frames, after the installation of precast concrete beams, precast concrete floors are erected. 6. The above steps are followed until the construction is finalized. For each system of precast concrete construction, certain type of connections is used. Conclusion 1. It is good in compression when compared to the other materials used for construction. Besides, the structure is good in tension as well. 2. Its resistance to fire is better than steel so it is capable of resisting fire for a longer time. 3. It has a long service life with low maintenance cost. 4. It can be cast to any shape required, making it the most economical structural material. 5. It yields rigid members with minimum deflection. 6. Less skilled labours are required for erection as compared to other structural systems. 12 | P a g e SOLUTION FOR TASK – 2 A Contiguous bored pile wall is an earth retention system formed by installing closely spaced Bored piles, with a small gap between adjacent piles. In contrast, a Secant pile wall is an earth retention system formed by installing overlapping Bored piles. These walls are designed either as cantilevered or with a variety of supports (ground anchors, walers & struts, etc.). Secant piles are usually selected where there are particular concerns about groundwater inflow, i.e. where there is a high groundwater table
