Important: You must submit your own solution with reasoning. What we are looking for is the thought process behind your designs and solutions as well as the actual solutions. Reports which do not give satisfactory reasons for their designs and solutions will be penalised. Agile processes (17 marks) Smart-tech Auto Services (SAS) were so pleased with your previous software development advice where you assisted them with procurement processes, that you have retained them as a client. As you know, SAS are involved with smart automotive products, and many of these fall into the category of Internet of Things (IoT) products. The founders of SAS recognised a larger need for small and ‘smart’ software products than centralised large systems. To maintain its competitive advantages, SAS has to adapt itself to the market. Sizes of their development projects will become smaller, while multiple projects of many varieties may be undertaken in parallel. The Waterfall process model is not appropriate for many of their future projects. SAS is investigating the adoption of Agile methodologies and practices. You are required to write a report on the adoption of Scrum and XP methodologies (including identifying individual practices and processes suitable for SAS), for SAS. Your report should provide: · An overview of the Agile mindset (2 marks). · Comparison of the Agile mindset and the Waterfall process (3 marks). · Description of Scrum process and XP methodology (3 marks). · Guidelines for choosing Scrum or XP according to types of projects SAS is likely to be involved with (4 marks). · Choose another well-known Agile method as a candidate for adoption and justify your choice (5 marks). The other well-known process can be any process you know. This will require independent research of comparable organisations (e.g., smart automotive and IoT companies) and your illustration of understanding Agile concepts in software development. The contents of the report should be organised logically and should be a maximum of 1500 words. This is a briefing to an employer/client so effective communication is critical. You will be penalised for going over the limit, as it may indicate your writing is not precise and you have not thought about your responses enough. · Word-limit: The maximum word-limit will be strictly applied. The marker can deduct marks for writing over this word-limit. So, make sure your report is completed within the given word-limit (1500 words). There is no maximum word-limit applicable for Title, Executive Summary and appendices. · Start early and submit on-time: Avoid any pitfalls that may arise due to late start. Thus, start your assignment as soon as possible to submit on-time. For late submissions, the standard assessment submission policy will be applied (see the unit profile). · Appendix: You may add appendices to document any additional material you wish to include such as tables, diagrams, figures, or other supplementary material. Appendices do not contribute to the word count of the document. · Reference (Harvard): You must add a reference section and include any references, including publications (literature, books, etc.), which you want to refer to support your report. · Late Submission: A penalty of 5% of the available mark will be deducted from the actual mark for each day of late submission up to five days. · Consultation: You will have the opportunity to show your assignment draft to your tutors/lecturer/unit assessor for feedback. Several assignment consultation slots will be organised; follow the announcements from the unit assessor. · Contact: Please contact the tutor/lecturer/unit assessor if you have any issues or confusions.

Agile Overview
Agile methodology belongs to the software development methodologies based on the model of iterative development. The methodology emphasizes on the principles of light and sufficient. It follows the rule of being communication-centered and people-oriented. It is also called light weight process since it is suitable f
or small projects. The method states that the development team uses engineering best practices and a suitable approach that would align development with business goals of SAS and its customer needs. Agile methodologies can be used for accomplishing higher quality software with self-organizing teams, in a shorter period of time, customer collaboration, reduced time to market, and less documentation. The lightweight methods are feature driven development, Scrum, crystal clear, adaptive software development, lean software development, Dynamic Systems Development Method, extreme programming etc.
Agile methodology involves ability to quickly adjust to changes to a product being developed or meet the requirements of a product under development. The primary emphasis is on efficiency and quality of the product. The level of agility is on the range of adaptability of the process without the need for significant additions like equipment or additional costs. Agile methods are gaining importance with the increase in demands in automotive industry. These methods are used to avoid long development process and help the automotive product manufacturers like SAS for launching their products at much faster speed. This further enhances the ability of the company to sustain competition. Automotive and IoT product developers are required to perform the task faster for customer requests and new demands. They are responsible for reducing the time-to-market for upcoming products with no room for lengthy product development. Agile shall offer to implement demands, methods, products and functions within short time schedules.
Agile methodology is of manner in which we can easily manage the project as it will be broken down into multiple phases. It includes the constant collaboration with the stockholders and provide continuous improvement at every phase or the stage food stop as the task starts the team will cycle through the process of planning, evaluating and executive. The continuous collaboration is very important for stakeholders of project and the team members.
There are four main values which are utilised when we are using agile methodology.
· Customer collaboration for the contract negotiation
· Respond to the changes for every plan
· Interactions and individuals over the tools and processes
· Work on the software over documentation
Agile is very responsive for the customer and market. It is able to respond quickly for the requirements and demands and it is able to change the direction as per the changes in the situation. The agile methods tries to increase the delivery of the value to the customers and reduce the risk of building products which are not able to meet the requirements of the customer
Comparison of Agile & Waterfall Process
Agile involves a set of principles than a methodology which are applied to specific methodologies like Scrum, Extreme programming, Kanban, etc. While Waterfall is a linear approach that focuses on up front planning with...
