Introduction
African American is one of the largest ethnic groups in the US, which have African ancestry but non-black ancestors. This group arose out of slavery, segregation, migration, cultural cornerstone, various Black movements related to feminism and power. The political past witnessed disintegration and separation from formal channels of power, the economic life also have traces of sufferings. As per Reyna and Zimmerman, the way of interaction included various verbal and non-verbal styles, linguistic transfers from continental Africa and distinguishable social culture.
Most Pressing Issues amongst African Americans
Racial differences:
The racial differences existed in US since colonial times. It has affected them both mentally and physically. The inescapable burden is responsible for premature death. They have faced and are facing adversities of racism such as compromised systems, less white-collar jobs, forced living in impoverished areas
Family structures:
It is one of the issues, which is disturbing this community since long. Technological access and healthcare maintenance. Treitler mentioned that disintegration of family structures such as absent fathers, higher birth rates without wedlock, lack of support from family increased the problems. Allen and Leach believed that this has increased the polarization and created negative image of this community.
Emergence of Underclass:
There is a sense of despair related to African American group. They are more associated with drug abuse, crimes and other epidemics of social dysfunction. They paid less in corporate sector, faces health disparities such as cancer, maternal mortality and infant mortality, diabetes and other health issues.
Social Factors:
The problems such as inequality in education, lack of good health care, economic disadvantages and impact on the health of African American were more intense. Poverty, income inequality, wealth inequality, food insecurity and the lack of safe, affordable housing are just a few.
