In general, a mission statement details what the organization produces or services, to what type of customer, and their competitive advantage (in other words, their unique trait or characteristic in the way they deliver the product or service). Specifically, I would suggest the following: first, mission statements should state WHO the customer is (i.e., the world’s children). Second, mission statements should state WHAT the product or service is that you produce (i.e., great food). Third, mission statements should detail what your COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE is. In other words, what you do better than any other organization who produces a similar product or service (i.e., we produce goods with the lowest price).

There are several examples associated with missions. Here are a couple you may be familiar with: To be the number one aerospace company in the world. (Boeing); to satisfy the world's appetite for good food, well-served, at a price people can afford. (McDonald’s); and better things for better living through chemistry (DuPont).
Question: can you find a mission statement that is not well written and, using your knowledge and skill, rewrite the mission statement to be more reflective and informative?
