In this assessment, you are required to create and submit an essay on the subject: Considering the Social Determinants of Health, and the vulnerable population groups who are most likely to require health care, look at one vulnerable population group (think those from low socio-economic situations, refugees, vulnerable migrants, rural or remote populations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, prisoners, culturally and linguistically diverse populations etc.), and consider: 1. What population group you have chosen and how the Social Determinants of Health relate to this group 2. What impact the care of this group has on nursing in Australia (how is care delivered? How do the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice inform the care nurses provide for vulnerable population groups? (E.g. Cultural safety, Respectful delivery of care, Ethical decision making, Scope of Practice etc.). This activity provides the opportunity for you to examine how the population profile of Australia impacts the nursing care we provide, and how this may be delivered. Further, this task allows you to develop your research skills, read and understand this academic research, and apply it to your arguments on this topic area. Remember to use the skills we have built upon this session, to closely analyse your resources, to determine if they are suitable for this subject area. It is strongly encouraged that you make a one on one appointment with the academic skills development unit, to go over your draft essay, well before submitting this task. This will allow you to make changes as necessary, and get advice on your draft work. Instructions: 1. You are to select a minimum of 7 journal articles, as well as any additional academic sources you can find, that address your topic. Your journals and analysis on this subject must be from an Australian perspective. You can use articles from overseas journals, so long as they have an Australian context and focus. 2. The journals that you select for this task must be published within the last 10 years. So, this means that you can only use journals published from 2010 onwards. Using articles outside of this time frame, no matter how well they address the topic area, may result in significant deduction of marks. Exceptions exist for pivotal research that has not been updated (such as Marmot’s sources). 3. Your overall work should be 2000 words. You are given 10% +/- for this work; however, words over this will not be marked, and may result in loss of overall marks (see rubric). Social determinants contribute significantly towards managing the needs and expectations of diverse population groups pertaining to healthcare. The accessibility to healthcare resources, their proper planning and execution as well as the positive engagement of the government are some of the factors that determine the course of alleviating the lives of aboriginal communities (Tallon e
t al., 2017). Particularly in the context of Australian aboriginal communities, they lead marginalised life and it hampers their active involvement in the overall social growth. Aboriginal people, especially the females suffer from a variety of issues in this context and it simply reduces their longevity. Their access to the quality resources of health is restricted under social norms. Their psychology has been structured around the patriarchal society, which is has male governance, leading to the development of some expected health related issues in them (Redvers, 2021). The following is the analysis of how social determinants are at play for aboriginal females, especially mothers and how nursing interventions can contribute in addressing these issues to a major extent.
At first, it is significant to overview the problems and how far these social determinants are responsible to the development of the healthcare issues. There is significantly low level of literacy in most of the aboriginal communities, when it comes to females and it is the clear indications of prevailing of gender disparity among them (Taylor & Haintz, 2018). In fact, education is one of the most potential barriers in the process of developing and implementing positive healthcare strategies for the alleviation of healthcare norms in these communities especially for females. If they are educated well, they cannot only understand the issues that can affect their health but also they can become active members in the process of spreading good words about the policies and interventions that government and NGOs have designed for them (Tallon et al., 2017).

Male dominance is the potential barrier in developing their course of education in this context because traditionally put, make governing societies are the trademarks of the aboriginal communities and they have to pursue the male designed rules in terms of social living (Redvers, 2021).
In case of emergencies, it is the males, who have to take decisions for the care of the females in aboriginal families, which are the indication of how potential risks are being taken at times. It simply jeopardises their lives because of having different needs and expectations from a healthcare system. According to the main predictors of the projected health, economic stability is a viable standpoint for aboriginal females. In the absence of formal education, they have nominal access to the employment opportunities and it hinders their individual economic progress (Northwood et al., 2018).
It forces them to compromise with their personal choices related to healthcare, as they have to be dependent over other family members who are mostly males. They do not get these employment opportunities due to the additional pressure of remaining within the home and taking care of the household liabilities. In the process of managing their healthcare needs, they mostly remain unaware of any potential medical issue and until they come to any state of discovery; they are most likely vulnerable to become victim of an unwanted disease (White-Williams et al., 2020).
Moreover, previous studies have given justifications related to the potential need of linking, education with economic stability and ultimately, it can be a predictive indication of good healthcare management for aboriginal females. What makes this observation precisely guided by the principle of economic equality is that when given opportunity to have employment and a strong academic background (Kingsley et al., 2018).
Aboriginal females were able to prevent any possibility of illness by 40%. They were able to manage their healthcare issues on individual bases by contacting the experts on time and thus, saving the potential delay, which could have been dangerous to their proper healthcare status. Further, socioeconomic disadvantage leads to potential healthcare issues for aboriginal females especially living in the remote Australian regions (Chenhall & Senior, 2018).
