In this assignment you will be developing standard work to capture the improved state of15 POINTSyour morning routine. As we learned Standard work is essential to sustaining the improvements you have made and serves as a basis for continuous improvement. There are two blank templates for this assignment that were demonstrated in the lecture slides {Standard work sheet, Work Element Sheet}.

1. Using the Standard Work Sheet template you will:




1. List the main steps of your morning routine (from your process map) under 'Main Steps'. Basically, there should be a work step for each box in your process map, with the same description from your process map. List them in sequential order.


2. Next to these steps indicate an Icon in the Key column if there is a quality or safety element to this step that you will explain in the Work Element Sheet next.


3. Enter the manual time to perform this main step in the 'Man' column for manual time.


4. Enter the machine time under 'auto' (i.e. the time it takes for the coffee maker to make coffee)


5. Enter the walking time between steps in the Walk column (e.g. moving from the bedroom to the kitchen)


6. On the right side of this document you will sketch a simple floor plan of your house and indicate where each of these Main steps occurs. You will then connect these steps with arrows. Refer to the example in the lecture slides to also add some of the icons for quality, safety, etc.




2. Using the Work Element Sheet you will:




1. Paste the Main steps from the Standard Work Sheet under Main steps column of the Work Element Sheet


2. Describe the details of how to perform this steps under the key points. Use concise bullets of that emphasize important points to assure efficiency, cost and safety.


3. Paste in the appropriate icon to emphasize a quality or safety element to the key points (there is an Icon tab in the WES spreadsheet).


4. Under the Reasons for Key Points column you will explain why each Key point is critical to the success of this process step. When training someone to the standard work this has the removes resistance in the mind of the trainee who may choose to ignore an important point if they don't understand why it is important to Efficiency, Quality or Safety.




3. Create a Training plan those who participate in your morning or for your own use routine using your new standard work




1. Sit down with your stakeholders (this may be you) who are part of your morning routine and go through the standard worksheet by reading the steps and walking the process diagram


2. Use the Work element sheet to describe the key points and reasons why while actually demonstrating these steps to them


3. Gather any ideas to improve the standard work document so it make sense to everyone


4. Capture ideas to further improve your morning routine (especially areas where you have yet to experiment). You will document these future improvement ideas in next weeks assignment (Master Improvement Plan)




4. Lessons learned: Please write a brief paragraph sharing your reflections/lessons learned from doing this assignment. It should include how you personally benefited from doing this assignment. You should address these questions. Have you shifted to root cause countermeasures? Are you using the PDCA cycle to implement the plan and gather knowledge?
