In this Module, you learn that chronic diseases have multiple risk factors. There are so many chronic diseases so let's use this discussion to learn about them from each other.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)


Do a little internet reading and learn a bit about your chronic disease. No need to delve in too deeply for this. Just the basics! Share what you have learned. Include the following:

• Describe the disease briefly, including symptoms. (1-2 sentences)




• Describe the epidemiological distribution, including rates and prevalence where applicable Generally, who is primarily affected and are there known disparities?




• State the main risk factors. Include ORs, RRs or any measurements if you find them. (Ex. Smoking increases risk by xx%)




• Consider the web of causation. Given the risk factors you found, and the social determinants of health you have learned about, what prevention strategies do you recommend to approach this problem?
