COURSE DESCRIPTION: WELCOME TO Introduction to Optimization & Modeling. This is an business management course. This course introduces basic quantitative problems in supply chain management , marketing and finance, and provides related optimization modeling and solution techniques to model, evaluate, and solve these problems and interpret the results. COURSE OBJECTIVES: • Understand the classical problems and latest development in supply chain management and marketing and finance. • Master the fundamental modeling and optimization techniques to model, solve and analyze those problems. PREREQUISITES: It is assumed that all students have completed basic statistics. As this course has a significant quantitative element, these materials should be well understood. The oral presentations are designed to help you improve your communication skills and to become more comfortable with public speaking. The time allotted for each presentation will be approximately 10 minutes. HANDOUT: 1. Final presentation: Please make your group presentation with audio narration. The minimum requirement: a PPT in which your voices are orchestrated with the slides. You can also get together in person and making a live video. Supported media file formats are .mp4, .avi, .flv. Please also include a copy of the PPT without voices. Please mark the contributions in percentage from each team members. Your final letter grade is based on the ranking of your final numerical grade. • Grade Allocation: The final grade will be curved and letter grade is based on the ranking, approximate 25~30% A, 60~65% B or B+, 10% C+ or under C+. • Please keep in mind that your final grade is not subject to negotiation. Your final grade will be adjusted only if a grading error is identified. If you believe there is a grading error, you should ask for a review meeting within one week of receiving your grade.
