Introduction
Food has been perceived is one of the basic rights of human beings; secured ways to sustain the availability of food and consumption of the same in the safest manner possible is one of the sources that everyone deserves to have. In the context of Australian government, it is dedicated to provide food security to all Australian citizens. There are specific parameters of food consumption that food delivery organizations have to follow. However, it is one of the challenges as well for the government to reach out to the indigenous population living in nation and meet out the goals of food security especially when there are healthcare issues related to the consumption of unhealthy food. The following paper analyses the issue of malnutrition in children and pregnant females in Torres and Strait Islander community and how it is relatively coverable through the application of food security act of Australia.
The Issue: A Brief Overview
At first, it is important to overview the prevalence of the issue in the Torres and Strait Islander population living in various regions of Australia. In fact, the method of developing their social order is still conventional; the indigenous communities in Australia follow their conventional norms of living which somehow affects their course of accessing to the common healthcare facilities. As a universal fact, pregnant females require the amount of nutrients which are greater than the normal female might need. However, in the context of the indigenous communities, malnutrition is subjected to the development of the clinical problems and it requires formal handling and management at the healthcare level.
In the same context, it can also be noted here that the participation in the health risk behaviour management is greater for the indigenous communities in Australia, if it is compared to their non-indigenous counterparts. The common population living in urban areas of nation do not deem it necessary to have their risk assessment done in order to ensure what kind of food security they need to adhere. In other words, there is a specific set up, a different system at healthcare level which people pertain to follow in the urban areas of nation. It is linked with the development of the healthy lifestyle means as well. If compared to the indigenous population, disparities exist in their behaviour related to the risk assessment of their children or pregnant women because the mortality ratio is three times higher in them than the urban population. It implies that the morbidity in the indigenous communities is at risk for children and the pregnant females which can be covered through the development of the healthy lifestyle in their behaviour. It is more like giving them smooth accessibility to the various food security programs conducted on behalf of the government or non-profitable organizations.
Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders continue to have the worst health of all Australian population groups, with a high...
