Instructions ACCT 326 Writing Assignment #4 Research and evaluate an actual AIS Project. Part I (Research an AIS project): Identify and research one financial or accounting system project that is planned, under development or has been implemented recently. The project can be for a small business, large company or government agency. It can be a project that you know of from previous experience or have worked on in the recent past. Or, you can use GAO or another online source to find a project. For example: www.gao.gov/products/gao-21-227 The VA is transitioning to an integrated financial and acquisition system from an aging system. Two previous attempts to replace the systems cost hundreds of millions of dollars and took years to develop. Using IT "best practices", the VA implemented the new system at the National Cemetery Administration but fell short of meeting some "best practices".  • identify the project and the company or agency the project is being implemented for. • briefly describe the purpose of the project. • explain how you identified the project and what research you used to find out more about the project.  • describe its status (in the planning stage,  under-development, completed, re-worked). Part II (Discuss your understanding of the AIS project): With your understanding of the project you researched, please answer the following questions (2-3 paragraphs per question): • Summarize your position: What benefits are likely to gained from implementing the project? Provide an example (e.g., improved accuracy of aged payables tracking).  • Are there some problems with the project? What is the main problem or challenge? Provide an example (e.g., legacy data structure does not align with new COA).  • Imagine that you are the Project Manager of this project. Would you do anything differently? Please explain. • The guidelines outlined below are considered to be a reasonable “checklist” to help ensure the success of system development projects. Do you agree? The AIS that has been selected for the purpose of this assignment is XERO which is a web based accounting system which is specifically designed in such a way that it meets all the business, accounting, and financial reporting requirements of small scale and medium sized businesses (Apps Run The World, n.d.a). The best feature that this software provides is the facility to access it from anywhere since it’s a cloud based system. It makes it possible to access real time information related to the business and provides facility to automate some of the time consuming accounting processes.
The organization selected for this report which has recently implemented the XERO accounting software is Travelodge Hotels (Asia) Pte Ltd which is a travel and hospitality company which is based in Singapore. This company has nearly 300 employees and its total revenue is $30 million (Apps Run The World, n.d. b).
