Components of Information System (IS) using Five-Component Framework
The five-component framework of information system is:
a) Hardware: The physical part of the system is known as hardware. It can be as small as a smartphone that fits in a pocket or as large as a supercomputer that fills a building. It also consists of peripheral devices that are required to work with computers (Jia et al., 2017).
b) Software: There are two types of software: system software and application software. Windows or iOS are examples of system software, which helps in managing hardware whereas to perform specific tasks application software are designed, for example spreadsheets, webpage (Aydiner, Tatoglu, Bayraktar & Zaim, 2019).
c) Data: The raw facts and statistics, which is collected for analysis and conversion into information. It is stored in various databases and data warehouses. It can be retrieved from these sources for further processing.
d) People: They are also referred as human resource without which information system cannot work efficiently. To generate query, giving commands and analyzing results people are needed (Galitsky, 2019).
e) Process: It is a systematic design of steps to be followed to play with the data. It helps to learn and interpret data with a futuristic perspective.
Porter’s Five Forces Model
The combination of Porter’s five forces model and information systems is beneficial to attain competitive advantage.
