Introduction
Environment is major concern in today’s world. With increasing aspects of pollution, is adversely affecting the sustenance of human lives. In this assignment we shall discuss about the various aspects of soil erosion, water pollution and drinking water treatment.
Impact of Soil Erosion
Soil is the skin that connects the entire life to that of the earth. It is a complex ecosystem that is home for numerous species. However, the ever-increasing demand of the human population has been exploiting the land resources of the earth. Increased demand for the agricultural commodities has resulted in the exploitation of the soil and thereby it is affecting the other aspects of the environment. Studies found that nearly half of the earth’s topsoil is eroded in the last 150 years (Chen et al., 2019). And this has affected nutrient composition and the soil salinity. It also polluted the adjacent water bodies.
The phenomenon of soil erosion is characterized by loosening of the topsoil, transportation and deposition of the eroded soil. The above-mentioned processes deplete the quality of soil by exploiting its nutrients and the organic components. The soil erosion causes soil deterioration. Extensive agriculture causes runoff from the agricultural fields which transports wastes through the drainage channels into the water bodies (Issaka & Ashraf, 2017). Use of fertilizers in the agricultural production also contaminates the groundwater. This...
