Uyghurs of China
Uyghurs are a minority ethnic group that originally comes from Central Asia and parts of East Asia. This particular ethnic group is considered to be the native of Northwest China which is also known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. This particular ethnic group has been recognized by the Chinese government as the original minority with the title of Xinjiang. These people have traditionally been a part of the Taklamakan desert in the Tarim Basin. Gradually these people started practicing Islam in the 10th century and by the 16th century, the entire group was identified as a Muslim ethnic group. Thereafter, Islam played a major role in the cultural identity of the Uyghurs.
Historians believe that Uyghurs are the ethnic origin of Xinjiang and in some aspects, Turkic aspects were more prominent. The Uyghurs were a part of the Turkic confederation called the Tiele who lived in the valleys of the Yenisei River.
