Scenario


You are a senior member of the team at your school, family day care, school age education and care service, or childcare centre (choose one). A junior member of staff has asked you to help them with understanding how to respond if a child made a disclosure of being sexually abused at home.










You are required to explain to the junior staff member:


1. What indicators were observed of any harm, abuse, or neglect?



Responsibilities in terms of:

As a senior member of the team in the school, the advices which I must make to the junior staff as a senior member of a childcare center are as follows:
1. Listen to the child very carefull
y without making any judgements. Further, we must inspire the child to face the problem sturdily.
2. Provide assurance to the child that he/ she is supported and no matter whatever may be the consequence we will be by their side.
3. You may also seek medical assistance for motivating the kid if necessary.
4. We must encourage the child to report the issue without any fear but never force them to do so against their will.
5. We must take into consideration their privacy and the people who are irrelevant to this issue should be rejected.
With respect to mandatory reporting, it must be ensured that there will be safety of the maids and the residents working at home concerning the disclosure of child who is sexually abused according to the home environment. Hence, it must be ensured that the maid at home if affected will receive timely assistance along with support from the parents of the sexually abused child.
With respect to protection of the child’s right, there must be trust and liability which should be displayed between the maid and the child with respect to sexual assault of the child (Mitchell, S., Shannon, C., Mulholland, C., & Hanna, D.; 2021).
While adhering to the child protection legislation it must be ensured that the safety of the child and their wellbeing is given paramount important. With respect to legislation on sex offences, I will suggest the junior staff to be friendly and also notify the personal information of the offenders to the appropriate authorities. Further, I must stay calm and listen to the child, reassure him/ her that I care about their privacy and stay sympathetic throughout the discussion.
