You are one of the directors in a major project management consultancy. Your consultancy wants to undertake government work but has been informed that it needs to show use of “Lean Project Management (LPM)” principles in its project management processes before being able to apply for any government work. The board of directors has decided, therefore, that they need to introduce LPM principles in all future projects in order to eventually be eligible for government work.

Introduction
LPM or Lean Project Management is referred to the practice of applying lean manufacturing principles and policies in the context of project management. The fundamental reason behind the implementation of LPM is the optimisation of value while, at the same time, reducing the waste generated by the processes. As a di
rector of the XYZ PM Consultancy, I will be heading the implementation of the LPM approach. The purpose of this memo is to inform the staff members of the decision made by the consultancy to implement the Lean Project Management approach. Additionally, this memo will also propose the process of implementation of Lean Project management.

Initial reasons for implementing LPM
    It is one of the fundamental aims of the consultancy to undertake and to be involved in government work. However, the consultancy has been informed by the government that it is necessary to show an active and successful utilisation of Lean Project Management principles within the processes of project management before the consultancy is able to undertaken or take part in any type of government operations. It has, therefore, been decided by the board of directors that it is absolutely necessary to introduce and implement the principles and practices associated with Lean Project Management in all projects to come in the future to be eventually be eligible in terms of undertaking and be involved into government work.
This, being the fundamental aim behind the decision to introduce and implement the LPM approach in the context of the consultancy, is not the only reason. In addition to being eligible for government projects and works, the consultancy desires to reduce the lead times involved with projects. The implementation of the Lean Project Management principles would furthermore enable the firm in terms of achieving a lower inventory and thereby, would reduce the costs associated with the storage operations and functions significantly. In addition to that, as argued by Sarhan, Xia, Fawzia and Karim (2017), the implementation of Lean Project Management principles and practices enable organisations in terms of reducing the all-inclusive costs associated with the operations and functions undertaken and carried out by them.
Furthermore, as argued by Raval and Kant (2017), the implementation of the LPM practices and principles enable organisations to reduce the wastage generated from manufacturing and production and allow them to identify and mitigate the flaws in processes which would contribute considerably to the enhancement of the productivity of the consultancy, as well as, offer greater quality and efficiency for the services offered by the firm (Ansah, Sorooshian & Mustafa, 2016). In addition to that, the implementation of the LPM practices and principles will enable the consultancy in terms of achieving greater satisfaction from the customers and thereby, strengthen its brand image from the perspectives of the stakeholders.
Benefits to stakeholders
    Stakeholders can be simply referred to as the individuals or group of individuals who are able to influence or are influenced by a project carried out by an organisation. Stakeholders can be both intrinsic and extrinsic. The chances of success or failure of a project relies profoundly on the associated stakeholders. At the most fundamental level, it is of utmost importance for businesses to realise the demands and necessities of the stakeholders. Additionally, it is also critical to be aware of exactly what results or outcomes do the stakeholders expect from the outcomes generated by a project. Analysing the demands and expectations of the stakeholders enable organisations to be prepared in terms of dealing with their concerns and necessities, as well as, focus on tasks that need to be prioritised by the organisations (Sunder, 2016).
    It may be said that the procedure of lean manufacturing enables organisations to develop a simple framework which fosters defining the purpose and decision-making of a company which reflect the necessities of all stakeholders. The lean framework fosters proactive engagement of the stakeholders which facilitates the co-creation of the product-service strategies of organisations. This eliminates assumptions from strategic planning owing to the fact that the lean frameworks expose owner to other perspectives which ultimately determine the success of the company. It offers the stakeholders with more influence and power in the decision-making process along with shared gains that are resulted from the outcomes of the project (Elias, 2016).
This increases the satisfaction rates among the stakeholders and offers them with better results from the elimination of issues from the projects. The customers, for instance, are offered with high quality products which provide them with optimum satisfaction. The employees, on the other hand, are able to eliminate productivity issues such as reworking or frequent brainstorming to mitigate the flaws associated with the processes. The stakeholders that have the highest power and influence, on the other hand, benefit from the increased profitability offered by the outcomes of the projects.
