Unemployment means a condition in which an individual finds work at work and cannot find a job. Youth is important to think about unemployment when discussing it because these people have consequences for future economic development, growth and stability. The social impact of overlooking youth unemployment can be significant. In comparison with adults, young people are about three times unemployed. In 2016, the global youth unemployment rate of 71 million youngsters was forecast to reach “13.1 per cent in the International Labor Organisation (ILO)”, according to the International Labor Organization (Plan International, 2019).
“The UN Report (2018)” indicates that youth unemployment is a cause of social and political instability. 5. Factors of unemployment:
5.1 Globalization, developments in technology and economic growth:
The employment and economic empowerment levels of young people are critical elements in building a strong society. The challenges that create obstacles to the way of work must therefore be identified. Youth is a weak population, says the United Nations (2019). The way jobs were established has changed with globalization. The factors that have a huge influence and have substantial effect on the labour market are economic growth, technical innovations and regular globalization. The relationship between workers and employers has also changed these factors. While these trends have succeeded in offering young people constant incentives for guaranteeing their long-term jobs, the demands have also increased. The need for steady development in skills has increased with increased versatility and availability of a variety of job opportunities. While economic growth is necessary in order to increase job opportunities, it is not enough. Companies do need to be inspired to build jobs and to prepare their young people to succeed in the future.
5.2 Gap in ability:
One of the biggest causes for unemployment is the skills shortage. Poverty is one of the key reasons for attending school and university that causes ability gaps. The needs of businesses cannot be fulfilled by individuals. That promotes unemployment among young people. In addition, higher education costs often hinder young people to obtain credentials that are required to boost their job prospects at the UN. Some examples of growing the need for continuing workforce growth in order to sustain the competitiveness of the labour market are economic shifts, technologic advances and industrial developments. The deficit in skills is one of the big disparities in youth unemployment worldwide and in the United Nations.
