Assignment 2 Description The assignment has following two parts: Part A – Network design and configuration based questions (50 Marks) Part B – Lecture contents related questions and answer (15 Marks) Part A: Business case study: Network design proposal for VIC Warehouse Pty Ltd Description A new warehouse storage service in Victoria, called VIC Warehouse Pty Ltd wants to install a high speed network for its employees. The users of the network will be the 500 employees of Victoria warehouse. This is intended to be an internal network accessible only by employees, not customers. The users will require access from three different geographic locations: 1) the Headquarters Office (in Melbourne CBD); 2) the Production and Warehouse facility (in Footscray); and 3) the Sales Offie (in Bundoora). Three network priority levels will be supported: 1) Management (network management tasks will receive the highest priority); 2) Users (user requests will receive midlevel priority; and 3) Background Processes (tasks such as back-ups, file transfers, etc. will fall under the category of low-priority The Footscray warehouse has four-separated building. These four buildings have 6, 14, 22 and 28 hosts respectively. The last building at Footscray is two storey buildings and the hosts are used by both marketing and finance departments in each level of the building. VIC Warehouse Pty Ltd has consulted with your group to design a cost-effective intranet that fulfils its needs. Staff in all the branches and in HQ have access to the WLAN as well. There will be a need for separate VLANs supporting the users. Some of the employees may telecommute from their homes over the weekends. Each of the employees whether they are in company or telecommuting need to be connected with a secure connection over a wired or a Wireless LAN connection, whichever may be available. VIC Warehouse gets a significant portion of their orders through their on-line ordering facilities. Web- based orders (online) get stored in their central file server(s), which is located in Melbourne, but should be accessible from any branch using appropriate networking technologies. The reliability of their file and web servers is of high importance. BN202 Internetworking Technologies Page#3 of 4 Prepared by: Dr Sadia Aziz Moderated by: Dr Imran Jokhio July 2021 Furthermore, the servers need to be protected from malicious computer attacks and unauthorized access. Facility to carry out audit checks needs to be provided as well to so as to keep track of the exact activity along with the date and time at which an employee carried out a computer system based activity. The activity could include doing task(s) such as installation of new software, changes in Webpage etc. (You will need to demonstrate your assignment during laboratory class). BN202 Internetworking Technologies Page#4 of 4 Prepared by: Dr Sadia Aziz Moderated by: Dr Imran Jokhio July 2021 Write a report based on the above network requirements, use the following structure to organise your report; and demonstrate switch and router configuration in week 11 laboratory class. The report should be properly references and cited following IEEE referencing style. Report Contents  Project Scope and Goals (6 Marks)  Project requirements (Hardware & Software in form of table. The heading of table columns are given below) (8 Marks) Product Price Quantity Total  Detailed Network Design in Packet Tracer which includes (10 Marks) - All switches - All routers - VLAN(Virtual LAN) - VTP(VLAN Trunking Protocol) - All PCs  Network device configurations a. Switch configuration: (6 Marks) - Set IP addresses on PC and switch - Create VLAN - Ping each other - Set VTP domain with your first name - Set VTP password with your family name - Demonstrate VTP packets b. Router configuration (5 Marks) - Set descriptions on interfaces, one with your name, second with your family name, third with your middle name - Display information about directly connected devices to router - Setup IP addresses for each interface - What is the subnet mask did you use? - Ping all routers. Demonstration Demonstrate switch and router configuration in week 11 laboratory class (10 Marks) Part B: Answer the Following Questions 1. Make a research on common Network problems/errors and explain at least five (5) of them in your own words. BN202 Internetworking Technologies Page#5 of 4 Prepared by: Dr Sadia Aziz Moderated by: Dr Imran Jokhio July 2021 2.
