The collaborative tool that I would like to discuss about today is Slack. In my opinion, Slack redesigned office communication tools and was a great replacement to Skype that was being used by many companies for long.

The pros of Slack are – it has a seamless user interface that doesn’t lag, comes with audio and video calling capabilities, all chat conversations are saved in the cloud, great group chat features and introduced react emojis to respond to messages (Slack, n.d.).

Cons of Slack – Data privacy, outages, companies using Microsoft suite of tools wouldn’t pay additionally for Slack as Microsoft teams comes integrated within the Microsoft suite, easily accessible on laptops and mobiles, Enterprise and Business packages are expensive.

In 2018 Slack was criticized for opening up private chats to system administrators. Slack has been growing in popularity and was recently bought by Salesforce for a mammoth $27.7 billion. Salesforce would integrate Slack in their own suite of product offerings.

The second collaborative tool that I would like to discuss about is Discord. In my opinion, Discord has grown significantly during the pandemic and even though my company doesn’t use it, I know many single clients using it. I personally use it to connect it to Patreon, a site that I use to get exclusive content from creators (Discord, n.d.).

Pros – great user interface, easy use in desktop and mobiles, free to use for single customers.

Cons – lots of spam chats , data insecurity, more suited for avid gamers.

Discord too was in Microsoft’s purchase list for $10 billion but that deal fell apart. Probably Microsoft wanted to integrate it in their gaming console – Xbox.
