Introduction
Social and emotional development theory explains the child’s experience and management of emotions where they create the ability to establish a positive relationship with others. These developmental theories explain how a child grow physically, mentally, and psychologically since their child and able to face the hurdles and cope up with the challenges in their future.
They slowly and steadily try to locate themselves in the place of those with whom they interact and, in this way, they can gather experience, manage as well as express their emotion. This paper would deal with three major social and emotional developmental theories adopted by three famous psychologists who had highlighted each growing stages of the child and accordingly put forwarded the theories.
Piaget’s Cognitive Development Theory
Piaget had described in his theory that children develop through the act of learning and try to interact with their world in order to understand the people, objects as well as the concepts that exist around them. He has explained his cognitive developmental theory by observing the child while they undergo through certain stages.
Firstly, he mentioned the stage of sensorimotor where the child ranges between 0 to 2 years and where they try to coordinate the senses with the motor responses as well as the sensory curiosity about the world (Babakr, Mohamedamin & Kakamad, 2019). In this stage, they gain control over the identification and determination of the object.
Secondly, he mentioned the preoperational stage, which is mostly found within 2 to 7 years children where they gained the potentiality to think symbolically, capable enough to use proper syntax as well as grammar to express their concern for any concept. In this stage, these children depend on the imaginative world and build a strong intuition.
Thirdly, he mentioned the stage of concrete operational, which was mostly found within 7-11 years old children. Here, they are ready enough to create any concrete ideas without any difficulty and acknowledge the concept of time, space, and quantity.
Fourthly, he mentioned the stage of formal operational which ranges from 11 years to above ages of children and it is been found that in this stage they develop the sense of theoretical, hypothetical, and counterfactual thinking process along with abstract reasoning and logic (Kazi,& Galanaki, 2019).
