Introduction
The aspects of social work practices have evolved over the course of past few years dramatically and it is due to the fact that now days, societies have grown from single dominance of community to diverse cultural groups sharing the same social space. This multiple level of existence leads to the understanding that these communities have varying needs and expectations to alleviate their social life norms (Belchior Rocha, 2018).
In other words, the roles and practices of the social care service providers have gown challenging and ethically obliging in modern context. Communication, critical assessment of the presented condition as well as determination of the kind of services required are some of these challenges. The following is the critical refection of the provided case study, in which the social worker’s approach to client is displayed respectively.
The Overview of Case Study and Communication
At first, it is significant to note here that communication is the key to successful accomplishment of the objectives set forth by social care service providers. This is more like having ideal dialogues and building of communication cues—either verbal or nonverbal—that leads to the ideal interventions planned and executed (Belchior Rocha, 2018). This is the first meeting of the client with the social worker and during the meeting.
The worker’s approach is well defined through the process of opening the discussion, building good rapport during the session, asking open-ended questions and even showing skills, which are closely linked to the empathy and active listening (Costello, 2020). The client is disturbed by the idea of his habit of intakes of alcohol on routine bases but he has some ‘conditions’ at family level that he needs to deal with.
These issues give him anxiety and stress and to avoid the same, he takes the support of drinking alcohol. The way this session develops, it shows the efficacy of the social worker with regard to his ability to understand the issue upfront as well as to make sure no rules of confidentiality of the client are violated.
Explaining Confidentiality and Building Rapport
In the context of establishing ideal communication norms, the approach of social worker is quite professional; he opens up the discussion by introducing his name and position along with setting up the course of the discussion for the session. He, therefore; builds ideal rapport with the client and by all means, he tends to make sure that the client is comfortable with the session.
The process of rapport building in all kinds of communications processed in social work practices is deemed essential due to the needs and concerns of the varying clients. His approach to develop these norms is ideal in the sense that the all the possible details are shared with the client to ensure that there is no ambiguity in his statements. Additionally, maintaining privacy and confidentiality is one of the bigger challenges than anything else is in the field of social work.
Scholars tend to advocate for the implementation of the ideal practices that safeguard the interest of the client by making the counselling sessions as much client oriented as possible (Greene, 2017). In other words, the clients approaching system to seek help are already shaken on mental grounds and their condition makes them vulnerable to various social threats such as loss of employment or social exclusion.
Marinating confidentiality is important—and it is well explained in the session because the social workers provides all details that are necessary such as how the session will proceed and what type of information will be sought after the client—because it secures the very fundamental rights of the individuals seeking help.
