London made history by becoming the first city to host the modern Olympic Games three times (1908, 1948 and 2012). The commercial benefits were clearly welcomed by the UK construction industry with around half a million new jobs to the industry in preparation for the global sporting event. Transport for London also funded numerous improvements in preparation for 2012, including expansion of railway networks and the introduction of Britain's first 'bullet (high-speed rail) trains.
