Complete the assignments from the textbook as indicated and submit by the end of week 4:

• Chapter 4: Textbook Problem #28 (DM), Research Problem #6 (RE), and Tax Return Problem #56 (The Butlers) (DM, AL, COM)

Submission Requirements

• Questions/Problems and Research assignments are to be submitted asone(1) attached file only for each file type. That is, if the assignment requires you to use Word and Excel (required for problems that require calculations) then submit one Word file and one Excel file.


• Use Intuit ProConnect (comes with your textbook) to complete the tax return.


• For all questions, using the APA format, provide the source(s) you used, in-text citations, and explain how you think the data analysis helps businesses engage in tax compliance and planning.


• Assignment length: minimum of three paragraphs.

• Please use Word to create your memo. The letter should be written in a professional form.


• Please proofread and spellcheck.

Some tips:

• If you have used tax software before, you know that you don't complete the forms—the software guides you through the tax return process. It's like an interview: you will be asked questions and you will answer them. You will enter the data you have and the software will complete the calculations and create the correct forms.


• After completing the tax scenario, save the file as a pdf. Open and check it to make sure you have the correct version. If your pdf is more than 15 or so pages, you have probably saved the copy that tax preparers save in their records. Do not submit that file—go back to the software and use the commands to save the copy that should be given to the taxpayer.
