1) Marketers use many inputs to help in decision-making. Among these processes is a BDI/CDI analysis. Wh
y is this better than a BDI analysis alone?
Solution: BDI means Brand Development Index which tells us how a particular brand performs in a specific segment if it is compared to the overall market performance. While CDI means Category Development Index which let us know the measurement of category sales performance in a specific segment in comparison to the entire sales in the market.
If we calculate both BDI and CDI, we will be able to understand our brand’s performance in a particular area in comparison to the entire market performance of my brand. Also, CDI helps us to understand performance of our brand in comparison to the industry’s market segment. If only BDI is calculated, even if the brand in underperforming we will not be able to understand if it is only our brand underperforming or the entire industry is facing the same problem. That means that the particular product is not popular in that market or state. But if along with BDI, CDI is also calculated, this will give us better idea about the particular product whether it is acceptable and popular in the market. Hence, it is suggested to calculate both BDI and CDI in analyzing market performance or else we won’t be able to detect the actual cause and instead put the entire blame on our brand.
