Assessment Description. This assessment provides students with an opportunity to research and analyse a particular healthcare segment to gain an initial insight into the opportunities and challenges that currently exist for organisations that deliver healthcare services in Australia. Students will present that research and analysis in the form of a formal report which requires students to adhere to a report structure including an Executive Summary. Assessment Instructions Students are to investigate an industry segment of the Australian healthcare sector and examine and evaluate its model of operations and growth over the last ten years. Choosing an industry segment where information cannot be easily found will make the task of analysis much more difficult not only for this assessment but may require students to change their chosen industry for the subsequent Assessments 2 and 3. The industry analysis must be in report form and should present appropriate criteria or business analysis tools as a framework in which to identify and analyse the challenges and opportunities confronting the segment. It should draw from a range of government and academic sources, as well as industry reports. It should cover: • A definition of the industry, outlining its main activities • An overview of the competitive landscape, identifying and describing major competitors or organisations within the segment and their business models • Industry trends, presenting an overview of operating conditions and factors influencing operating conditions • Ethical issues faced within the industry Your analysis should focus on the broader environmental factors influencing operations within the sector. The report may also include charts or diagrams, which are not included in the word count. The findings presented in this report must be based on scholarly and peer-reviewed sources of information that were published no longer than 5 years ago and relevant to the field of strategic healthcare. Introduction
Australia is like all other devel
oped nations of the world that have confronted the issue of aged care development and reforms recently. The government has undertaken various policy measures aimed at providing social support or residential health care or care by discounting services for the aged (Dyer et al. 2020). While some policies have been effective, others have been confronted with policy challenges or deficiencies in implementation. The paper examines the policy measures undertaken to provide care for the elderly by the Australian government.
It also analyses the success of the policies and the challenges in the implementation process faced by the policies (Poulos et al. 2020). At the same time, the effective measures taken by the Australian government to improve the services for aged care are the strengths of the sector. However, to stabilise the funding process to non-profit and profitable organisations altogether is one of the major challenges, in terms of managing the customer directed care given to the elderly community in nation.
Outline of Main Activities
At first, it is significant to note here that the consistent rise in the elderly community is seen over the past two decades in Australia, which has enhanced the aged care services in nation. There were an estimated 2.4 million people over the age of 65 in 2001, making up 12.5 percent of the population, which is likely to increase to about 18 percent of the total population by 2021. Although the number does not increase, there is an increase in the proportion of the population that can be categorised as old (Ervin et al. 2019). It is not possible to ignore this proportion of the population. Therefore, to fulfil the expectation of people to provide care in the old age, the need to provide care to the aged has become increasingly important.
There is also a shift in the group's aspirations from policy makers as the numbers of the aged grow. It must also be noted that in different groups, the nature of health care that would be provided to the group would differ, creating diversity in the group. In hospitals, for example, a group of elderly people may require health care. Each individual's health status may vary, so the government needs to formulate policies in order to manage the needs of all groups (Dyer et al. 2020). These are some of the major areas where the operations of the government take place. The main activities include locating the elderly persons who require physical and mental support and then, to design person oriented care plan by in home service either given or by admitting the person to the aged care facilities operating over the funds of the government (Eagar, Westera & Kobel, 2020).
