MEDIA AND INTERNET: IMPACT IN UNITED STATES
The writing of Constitution of United States was done in secrecy. Neither the journalists were allowed to watch
how it is getting drafted, nor were the framers permitted to talk to the media regarding discussions, decisions, agreements or disagreements. After its completion, the Constitution was printed and published on newspapers for access to the public. Commentaries and opinions by editors of newspapers were also published along with. Opinions were also given regarding the form of government it proposed and the new document. The Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers also argued that the press had an integral and important role to play in the democracy of America. Also, the media had the capability to bring public opinion into picture, hence giving a rise to public policy.
Ethical journalism is where journalists remain neutral and unbiased in their reporting, but the issue is, there is always biasness present in reporting of news, as far as human nature is concerned, due to personal views, that will be reflected in their work. A study was conducted in 2005 by political scientists where 18 media outlets out of 20 had their personal opinion reflected in their news reporting. Among those 20, only Fox News and Washington Times scored right of an average voter of United States.
