Organisations attempt to address gender equality in the workplace by offering family-friendly benefits such as parental leave. However,many mothers and fathers are still reluctant to take long parental leave due to potential bias and discrimination from their co-workersand supervisors at work. In this assignment, you are required to apply relevant OB theories/frameworks/perspectives to address thefollowing questions:

1.

Using stereotyping perspectives in Block 2a topic, discuss the potential stereotyping problems from their colleagues or supervisorswhen mothers/fathers takes a long parental leave;

2. When a mother/father experiences prejudice or discrimination for taking a long parental leave (e.g., not being promoted or not givencareer opportunities), how does this perception of inequity impact their motivation and also their actions in reducing this inequity tension?Discuss these issues from motivation perspectives (see Block 3a topic).

Internalized stereotypes
In the workplace, gender
stereotypes have persisted and it has gone through the gender role at work that has changed substantially over decades. There are a high number of women staying and entering the workforce. It has affected the decisions that are taken regarding parental leave in a multitude ways. Men and women can internalize the stereotype that means that men are not very communal and they wouldn't take very good care of the baby. It has been found that females are endorsed in gender stereotypes but male partners are discouraged for taking parental leave. The key factors included in this gender stereotype are not only descriptive but also include a perspective view. Male members cannot receive parental leave because they get backlashed and considered weak and lacking work commitment. They are also aware of potential consequences and it can contribute to deciding against parental leave. It includes range of discrimination that can be faced including both direct and indirect form. It is faced by parents while going on leave or returning to work (Caro, Madrid & Cárdenas, 2022). It includes negative attitudes towards pregnant work and other safety and health issues. This might include change in salary, duties and condition upon announcing pregnancy or while on leave or returning to the work. In most of the situations, leaves get refused and it can limit the contact during the parental leave. It includes denied flexibility arrangements on returning to work after the parental leave. It includes inadequate support in the workplace for women.
No role models
Lack of communication is the prime factor that is considered as the invisible barrier for men for taking the leave that are entitled. It is important to have a proper visible parental policy for both mother and father across different departments and sections of the organization for offering parental leave. It will lead to parents being more aware about the entitlements. It is important to ensure that parental leave for men in the organization is important. These effects can be particularly pronounced when men in the leadership position can take parental leave and it can act like a role model for demonstrating the way that can be successful for taking parental leave. It is penalized for making use of such policies without making many changes (Varda & Glover, 2018). It includes negative attitudes in the workplace and it includes attitudes that are informed by gender stereotypes about ideal workers and about men and women caring roles. In the case of women, it includes negative treatment commonly started from the moment after announcing pregnancy and it continues through the moment and it is continued through the return to the workplace following the parental leave.
