The goal of the assignment is to create personal career development goals. The focus is on the individual student and how they visualize their career path and to identify career development goals. Guidelines: Based on the content of the interviews and webinars related to the career development path, develop your own personal, professional, and academic goals. Teams have been created and industry partners assigned to each team. The project spans for the first half of the semester, with Interview dates scheduled for Week 5 and a Written Report due week 7. Your objective is to conduct an interview with an industry partner in order to: 1. Uncover 3 challenges/issues within their organization, business, industry, etc. Your final report will explain what is currently happening at their organizations and propose recommendations and solutions on how to address the challenges discussed, along with implementation and evaluation strategies. Examples of challenges that could be addressed: international tourist demands, check-in procedures at a hotel front desk, social media reviews, working with international workforce, impact of COVID19 on the business, etc. 2. Receive career development advice and suggestions in the areas of: personal, professional and academic development (See Career Development Path Assignment Guidelines for clarification) Guidelines: Industry Interview Questions: Due Week 3 o Each team needs to submit 5 interview questions for your professor’s review and approval *Mandatory in order to proceed with partner/employer interview o 3 questions related to challenges/issues faced by the organization/industry o 2 questions related to career development (to be later used for your Career Development Path Assignment) 2 Industry Interview: Due Week 5 Your industry partner Industry will be conducted no later than this week. Guidelines for interview preparation to be completed and rehearsed as a team are as follows: 1. Contact industry partner to schedule an appointment for the Interview as soon as possible (Week 3 is ideal) and request/allow appropriate amount of time (i.e. 45 to 60 minutes). Ensure to reconfirm the date & time one day prior. 2. Submit your questions (reviewed and approved by faculty) to industry partner no later than 3 days prior to interview to allow them time to prepare adequately. 3. Determine the platform you will utilize to conduct the interview (i.e. Teams, Collaborate, Zoom) and send link for access to industry partner and each member of your team no later than one day prior (in your confirmation note or email). 4. Ensure to record the interview and advise the industry partner when you start the recording. The recording will be a good tool to review the responses and dialogue when preparing your report. You will also be sharing the interview on Blackboard with other classmates for benefit of Career Path Development Assignment. 5. Beginning of interview must include professional greetings, introduction of each team member and thank you for industry partner’s time. 6. Determine the roles of each team member for the Interview (i.e. host of the interview (individual, or team), one person or each person asks questions, technical person to set up the virtual meeting and ensure recording is done, note keeper(s), time keeper). You may wish to practice this ahead of time. 7. Be respectful of time. The interview should not extend longer than the time set aside by industry partner. Reconfirm the duration of time person is available when setting up the interview date & time. (i.e. 45 minutes or 60 minutes). 8. Follow up with thank you email, highlighting an interesting point shared in the interview and any tips you may have learned.
