There has been a massive rise in road accidents in Australia. The Australian Road Death Database (ARDD
) identified 1119 fatalities in road accidents. Road safety is the main matter of focus, which must be addressed by the Australian Safety Authority and the Police. The factors that cause these injuries and accidents are ergonomics which includes work postures, physical working environment, standard working time, work physiology etc. In various cases it is found that there is physical and mental load on human body at workplace which may leads to fatigue. Improper sitting and working areas in the premises may lead to injury. The seats of vehicles were not comfortable and appropriate according to the driver’s body which may cause injury. It is found that the age of the truck driver was 62 years and he had multiple health problems like cardiovascular disease and he was diagnosed with sleep apnea. He is overweight as well. Company has increased the shift timing from 8 to 10 hours which disturbed the sleep cycle of the of the driver, and affected the mental health as well as the body. Everyday the company allocate different vehicles to the drivers that is also a reason of accident because if they drive the same vehicle everyday then they will get used to it and their body get comfortable with the seats of the vehicle and gain a familiarity about its features and problems, thus, they won’t find any difficulty or problem while driving.
