Discussion Topic 1: Demand and Supply
Healthcare is of prime importance and there is requirement of making it accessible and approachable for every person in this world. However, there is disparity in how healthcare is spread all across the world. Hence, demand and supply are forces which outlines the entire economics of the market (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)., 2011). Demand of healthcare is more because people fall sick and needs medication and doctor's consultation to recover back to normal. On the other hand, supply of the doctors and skilled medical professional is low, making access to healthcare even less in number. Therefore, demand in healthcare is always high since there is need in the market and supply of the experienced professionals are low (American Public Health Association., 2012).
Challenges that are faced by public health professional in managing demand for public health services and program is the nature of the job is very peculiar and sensitive. If the demand is not analysed correctly and comprehensive measures aren’t taken in timely manner then it is quite possible that people might lose their life. Therefore, it is very essential to assess the situation, nature of the demand and then prioritise actions instead of just stressing on managing the demand.
Yes, Indeed, healthcare professionals leverage economics to analyse the market in order to evaluate nature of public health services as well as programs. Healthcare professionals assess the severity of a demand, nature of the demand and accordingly take actions. They prioritise the actions based on need of the patient rather than pure demand-supply play. Healthcare professionals generally divide their time spectrum for thing which are in demand but can be managed even if it is delayed and second aspects for things which require instant attention and requires attention at that moment (Allen J., Ottmann G., Roberts G., 2013).
Discussion Topic 2: Access, Equity and Citizen’s Juries
There has been massive shift in the healthcare industry largely shifting the prospective from a disease-oriented health care system to one which focuses on wellness and prevention. Considering the involvement of public and their representation in court settings considers priorities for health research and has become a common practice. Involvement of public has become a standard norm in many healthcare studies and research. Essentially Citizen’s juries represent an effort to bridge the gap between senior to junior consultations which outlines the entire involvement following the top-down approach. Along with it, bottom-up approach is also taken into consideration by encouraging the participation based entirely on the interest and knowledge of a lay man or common citizen. Therefore, citizen's juries represent a holistic guide which aspires to apply community-based participatory research.
There is close relation of health literacy with use of health services. However, not everyone, who uses the services have technical acumen about the health or perhaps are literate in terms of medical science. However, there is requirement to promote use of the healthcare services regardless of health literacy since the primary aim is to solve the problem of illness, ailment and health issues. The demand for health care is essentially derived from the requirement of the people. Healthcare is in demand since it implies that consumer wants to attain a larger "Health capital" as a stock. There is always a high demand for healthcare services irrespective of the fact consumer are aware about the medication they are demanding or not.
