  1. [Chapter 4] Please analyze your current (or previous) job characteristics based on the five components of the job characteristics theory. How is it related to your job satisfaction?

  2. [Chapter 4] Please look at the list of 10 jobs in instruction. Please rank the top three (high emotional labor) and bottom three (low emotional labor) and discuss why you think those jobs require more (or less) emotional labor.

  3. [Chapter 5] How do you manage stress? Please share your stress management strategies with your classmates.

  4. [Chapter 6] Which of the outcomes from the textbook will give you more motivation? Are you more attracted to extrinsic outcomes or intrinsic outcomes?

  5. [Chapter 6] Please think of any outcomes that you get from your current (or previous) workplace. Did you feel that you are equitably treated according to equity theory? How do you respond when you experience overreward or underreward?

Answer 1
Job characteristics model states that the job characteristics bear significant effects on the motivation of the employees and their happiness as well as the success they derive from their jobs. As noted by Cerne, Hernaus, Dysvik and Skerlavaj (2017), this model also includes other intercepting variables such as accountability, awareness of outcomes and significance of the job role of the employee.
Variation of Skills
Variation of skills takes place when an employee is asked to participate in a huge range of activities, in which they can exhibit their diverse skill development.
Identifying the Job
Identification of the job takes place, when the employees are able to finish the full job completely and on their own (Cerne et al., 2017).
The Importance of the Task
The importance of the task happens, when the work allocated to the employee has a real value and it affects them.
Autonomy
Employees who have autonomy have the right and discretion to choose if they want to do their job. Autonomy takes place, when the employees get any direct input their performances such as their effectiveness through feedback.
Feedback
Eventually, it has recommended including assessment and input in business classes, with timely and meaningful feedback (Cerne et al., 2017).

Rather, the goal of job design is to fine-tune the levels of each characteristic to match the large workforce to the worker doing it (Colquitt, Lepine & Wesson, 2021). This alignment is critical because the worker carries mental characteristics to the job that have an impact on job results.
Answer 2
Emotional labor is different from "psychological distress” or interpersonal tasks (such as gift giving and event management) that women often perform at work and at home, which is a current source of misunderstanding. Emotional...
