[email protected]) Course Description An introduction to financial accounting concepts, principles and analysis with emphasis on income determination and financial accounting and reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Course Intended Outcomes Upon completion of the course the student should be able to: 1) Describe an overview of financial accounting and explain its theoretical foundation as it relates to various business forms. 2) Explain the conceptual framework of accounting including its objectives, assumptions, principles, constraints, and qualitative characteristics. 3) Demonstrate the accounting process for service and merchandising entities. 4) Identify the elements and purposes of the four U.S. GAAP-required financial statements and explain their importance and application to business today. 5) Describe and evaluate internal control systems. 6) Explain the basic corporate characteristics, capital structures and related issues. 7) Complete an accounting cycle project utilizing Excel. Grading Policy Your Course grade consists of Homework (including the required Accounting Cycle Assignment), Quiz and Test Assignments. All assignments are completed at myaccountinglab.com. Tests account for 50% of the course grade; homework (including the Accounting Cycle Assignment) account for 30% of the course grade and quizzes account for the remaining 20% of the course grade.
