Network Topologies and the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model
For this assignment, you will submit a paper discussing several networking standards related to network structure (topologies) and interconnectivity (the OSI model). Using the readings from this unit as your primary source, provide a summary of each of the following topics related to network standards.Assume that the audience for your paper knows nothing about the topic and you need to explain the concepts and terms to them. In addition to the readings for Unit I in uCertify, you may use other reliable, academic sources that you find online.

  • Define topology as it relates to computer networks.

  • List and describe the topologies covered in this unit. Include at least one advantage and disadvantage of each topology.

  • Explain what the OSI model is and how it is used.

  • Explain how an understanding of topologies and the OSI model can help someone understand and troubleshoot network issues.

You should include graphics or images in your explanations of topologies and the OSI model. Size any graphics or images that you use, so that they make up one third or less of your response, in total. Be sure to cite all of your sources and include in-text citations throughout your response.Your paper should be at least three pages in length, not counting the title page and reference page (title and reference pages do not count toward the total page requirement). You must include an introduction. If outside sources are used, please adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary.

OSI Model and Topology in Computer Networks
If we talk about the computer networking layers then it has different networks which are local area network, Internet Protocol and the transmission control protocol.
The local area network is known for providing them network over the link layer. The Internet Protocol is the inter network layer and the transmission control protocol is the transport layer. We can understand that the communication takes place between different layers, and it is the gradual process instead of performing it directly (Li, Y., Li, D., Cui, W., & Zhang, R.).
Each layer will be able to communicate with the other layer which is directly either above it or below it. If the program is transferring data from the TCP library, then the TCP will call the IP library and then the IP will call the session layer. It will not have any direct transfer of the data which we learn for the TCP layer. Each of the layers will have their different functionality. The LAN area network can have different coverage limitation. It is cheaper to implement as compared with the other networks on the basis of the coverage limitation.
The wide area network is able to operate at the higher speed and it provides coverage to the smaller area. It is able to connect multiple devices like the personal computer and the devices which are present in the office and also in order to share the different assets. It is known for producing low delay and also make sure that we have limited errors. Local area network has physical links and the interfacing hardware. There are physical topologies of the LAN which are bus topology, ring topology, start apology and few others. The bus topology is the oldest topology which is used to represent the connection between different devices connected over the single cable. The single cable can be used as the backbone for the whole network. This network is not used currently because it has lack of the efficiency.
The ring topology was introduced to solve the problem of bus topology. It is used to interconnect the devices in the circular manner in which the...
