Assessment Instructions The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 is New Zealand's workplace health and safety law. The HSWA sets out the principles, duties and rights in relation to workplace health and safety. A guiding principle of HSWA is that workers and others need to be given the highest level of protection from workplace health and safety risks, as is reasonable. There are certain health and safety requirements for workplaces that all persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must meet. In your career, it is most likely that as a manager you will be asked to complete a health and safety audit of the business you are in and convey your findings to stakeholders. For this assessment we would like you to complete a health and safety audit for Aspire2 International you are studying at. You will be acting as if you were an independent auditor from ‘Worksafe.’, the Health and Safety governing body in New Zealand. For the audit, there will be a series of tasks you are required to complete as outlined below (see task list). You have been provided with a set of Health and Safety Audit forms to facilitate the audit. These tasks will ensure the health and safety audit meets internal compliance, external compliance and relates to stakeholders. (Note: Permission will need to be sought from your tutor of the premises prior to you doing the audit assessment to ensure staff and management are aware of what you are doing and why.) Task 1- Internal and External Health and Safety Requirements -(LO 1/3/4 – 17 marks) Evaluate the requirements for a health and safety audit of the premise. In the evaluation you are asked to: a) Research the requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 for The Aspire2 International College to produce your own audit checklist suitable for the activity ensuring the key information required is included to complete internal and external compliance requirements. (5 marks) b) Evaluate the current health and safety processes and requirements at Aspire2 International against the Worksafe requirements to see if they meet Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. Copies of the documents used by the premise are to be attached to the assessment. (10 marks) c) Investigate with the Health and Safety officer/manager for Aspire2 International and/or other relevant Managers, Supervisors or staff whether all processes are being followed and to what extent – a copy of the details of any discussion or data produced is to be attached (2 marks) [A copy of the key Health and Safety documents for the premises are to be attached to the assessment.] A summary document of the evaluation forms the first part of the assessment.) Task 2 - Premise Health and Safety Audit (LO 1/3/4 – 15 marks) Complete a Health and Safety Audit Aspire2 International. The audit is to cover all areas accessible by students including classrooms, corridors, common rooms, toilets, stairwells or lifts and courtyard areas. a) Using the Aspire 2 International Health and Safety audit form complete a Sitesafe evaluation which requires you to walk around the premise and note anything of interest, with regards to health and safety, including the placement of signs and compliance notices. (5 marks) b) The form is to be completed, dated and signed off for all areas of the premise you have access to. (5 marks) c) A description of any aspect that is non- compliant is to be attached. A copy of the completed form is to be attached to the assessment.] Task 3 - Evaluation of Health and Safety Audit Findings (LO 1/3/4 – 15 marks) Evaluate your results and create a summary of findings to present to key stakeholders. In this summary document present all findings of the Audit. Highlighting those areas which are non- complaint with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. For the non-compliant findings suggest actions Aspire 2 International needs to take to rectify the situation, a timeframe to make the changes, and the person responsible for those changes. a) Using the information from your audit of the premise to create a summary of findings. (10 marks) b) Suggest recommendations for the premise based on your findings. (A minimum of two recommendations are to be made). (5 marks) Task 4 – Creating the audit report – 5 marks Ensure all information is presented correctly in a professional report and references are correctly referenced using APA referencing.
