One of the most challenging skills is reflection of feeling. Mastering this skill, however, is critical to effective counseling and psychotherapy. As always, divide into practice groups, select a leader, and assign roles. See Box 7.4.
1. Verbal feelings and emotions expressed by the client. List here all related words.
2. Nonverbal indications of feeling states in the client. Facial flush? Body movements? Others? Later check this out with the client. What does the client recall feeling? What did you as counselor feel emotionally through the process of listening and reflecting?
