TASK A
My Role and Responsibilities as a Teacher
A teacher plays multiple roles in a student's life. As a teacher you should be able to motivate and encourage the students to do better in their lives ahead. The teachers are able to influence the young minds and inspire them to utilise their inner creativity during the period. Though the basic responsibilities are to teach a lesson from a particular subject and make the students learn the required knowledge. While teachi
ng, a teacher should be apply to use different styles of teaching to make the lesson more interactive and fun for the students. A lot of teachers stick to their specific teaching styles which can get mundane for the students after a period of time. The students should be able to engage themselves during a class. The involvement of the students while learning a new topic can lead to better understanding about the topic. If the students are able to understand their basic concepts better and rectify their mistakes with the help of their teacher, this can result in the student's better performance academically.
The Relationships and Boundaries between the Teaching Role and Other Professional Roles
As a teacher, it is important to engage the students with different activities to explain a lesson in a better manner. A teacher needs to set some goals for their students. This would help in assessing their knowledge about a topic. The teacher needs to judge their performance on the basis of assessments and tests to see if their current teaching style works for the students. Different teaching methods can change the mundane routine in the class as well as improve the student's performance (Avalos, 2011). Depending on the curriculum, there are mainly two types of assessments. The first one being the summative assessment. This type of assessment is conducted after the completion of the whole syllabus. It summarizes the whole portion in a course and it results in the final performance of a student. The second type is formative assessment. These type of assessments are conducted after finishing some portion of the course. This is to check the student's understanding of a particular topic. Here the teacher can assess a student's performance and can help improve their performance for their next assessment. A student can get to know about their strengths and weaknesses in a topic which can help them in working on their weaknesses.
While teaching a set of students, a teacher needs to make sure to keep certain boundaries. This would help the teachers to maintain a systematic order in their workplace. For example, a teacher needs to make sure that they are not biased or favor a student over other students. They need to treat all their students equally. They need to promote equality among their students and prevent any incidents that can lead to discrimination against a student's religion or ethnicity. As a teacher, you should keep a professional relationship with your students. Being over-friendly with a student is wrong and therefore, a teacher should not be involved with a student personally or emotionally (Berger et al., 2018). A teacher needs to be ethical and fair to their students. It is important to value a student's performance over personal motives while teaching the students. Therefore it is important for teachers to behave in a certain manner and maintain decency in their class.
Initial and Diagnostic Assessment in Agreeing on Individual Learning Goals
It is a process of identifying a student's learning ability and need of any extra support. The initial assessment is one of the critical processes as it represents the first stage of the learning cycle for the students. It determines a starting point for a student. It helps the students in addressing any barriers they face that preventAdapting them from completing the whole course syllabus. The initial assessment identifies the capability of a student to achieve their set of goals in the course. Whereas in diagnostic assessment, a teacher can evaluate a student's knowledge, skills, and areas that require more development in a particular topic (Darling-Hammond et al., 2019). For the teachers, it provides a thorough description of where a student needs to work more and areas that require improvement from their side. The diagnostic assessments are mainly used for guidance tests. It helps in bridging the gap between a student's performance and their understanding of a subject. It also helps in identifying their level of current knowledge about a particular topic. It acts like a indicator for the teachers to understand the capability of their students in comparison to their current knowledge about the subjects.
Points of Referral to Meet the Needs of Learners
A teacher needs to know that every student's understanding of a topic may vary from others. Therefore a teacher should be able to meet the needs of all students equally. A teacher needs to identify the weaknesses of a student and plan measures that would help in overcoming these issues. Every student may have a different talent. When a teacher recognizes such talents, they need to help their students in developing these talents further and encourage them for the same. If a teacher notices that their students are affected by certain problems, they need to take the required action and find out some solutions for these problems. Meeting the needs of the students would help in improving their understanding of a subject and result in an overall better performance academically. It is important to assess their knowledge over a period of time and provide them with extra support that can help the students. The teachers help in shaping the minds of their students. This guidance would help students in achieving their academic goals.
TASK B
Identifying and Meeting Individual Needs of Learners
In a classroom, every student would have different needs. As a teacher one needs to make sure that they are able to meet every student's need. A particular teaching style would not be helpful for all the students. They may have to use different methods for some students. If a teacher notices a student who is weak at...
