A/B Testing is a webpage testing technique which depicts the performance of two different versions of content of the same webpage o
n similar set of samples (Dixon, 2013). It is the testing process used by marketing professionals to identify and test factors that impact the performance and effectiveness of one marketing effort. In this testing, minimum of two versions of webpage are chosen to be viewed by a user on an interactive user interface. An idea of a website or software can be quickly evaluated using controlled experiment of this testing over internet connectivity. They offer causal relationship with substantial probability as compared to data mining techniques (Kohavi, 2016). It is also called split testing or bucket testing.
The test works in the way that a webpage or application screen is selected. It is modified to create a new version. The former version is the Controlled A version and the new one is the Challenger B version. Half of the users are exposed to version A and the other half to version B, recording and their experiences. The experiences are analyzed in order to determine whether the modifications impact visitor behavior in a positive, negative or neutral way. A/B testing is effective in continually improving a given experience or in improving a business goal like conversion rate over time.
