Overview of Assignment This assignment is an extension of individual assignment 1. Students will work in groups of 2-3 to investigate further on the application identified in the previous assignment. When students in a group analysis the application of each member in the group, they choose one application which can be implemented as a computer programme. They will have to analyse, design and construct a flow-chart and investigate further to write it as an algorithm. They also have to use some inputs to check the reliability of the algorithm. Students also have to do a thorough analysis of algorithm to identify any problem and give a suggestion to rectify it. Task Description: Written Report Student group will be exploring and analysis the applications which are identified by each group member and they have to recognise an application that can be programmed in to computer. Each group have to sketch a plane to draw a flow-chart and algorithm. Use some inputs to test the algorithm (Give different trace table for each input) and identify any problem in the algorithm. Suggest a plane to rectify or explain why it can be rectified. Each group has to write one report on its findings. Based on your assignment 1 report, tutor of the class will form the group so that students will not work in their own choice of group. The written report must have the following sections: 1. Introduction 2. Description of why students choose this application and why students omit other application 3. Give a complete plane to implement the application in to a computer program with use of flowchart 4. Write an appropriate algorithm 5. Use at least two inputs to test the algorithm. Group need to give a trace table for each input. 6. Conclusion 7. Short statement about contributions/Reflections from each group member 8. References

ICT101 – Individual Assignment1 brief
)
We have been given an assignment for writing flow chart and algorithm for one Mathematical topic. We were given five topics and out of that we have
to select one. The topics and why I have selected/not selected is given in the following paragraphs.
i) Number system: Number system is a very vast subject, and it can be sorted as real, rational, integers in one way or according to base 10, 2, 8, etc as decimal, binomial, etc. I preferred not to select this topic as this topic would become very unwieldy for writing algorithms for me.
ii) Truth table: Truth table we have to find even for two variables as p, negation p, q, negation q, p implies q and so on. So if variables increase the groups also may become very large. Hence I left this for the time being.
iii) Quantifying a predicate is using the words some or all. i.e. we have to write there exists atleast one exception or all satisfy one statement. This was uncomfortable for me through flow chart. Though I understand this topic expressing this may be a little bit difficult
iv) Recursive formula is finding a pattern and writing nth term as a function of the previous term. This would be an interesting phenomenon and I would have selected this if one to one function was not there.
v) Two’s complement is a N bit number in binary system and here normally the sum of a number and its two’s complement is 2n. A little bit difficult to explain I felt. So I left this
vi) A control structure would be a programming that analyzes variables and hence finds a direction to go based on given instructions. This is more of a decision making process and inferring values form the past for prediction. Since this I thought was an advanced level, I did not select this topic..
Finally the topic I selected was
