Paper Requirements

Paper should be between 2-3 pages in length.

Double spaced simple (12 point) font.

Paper is divided into the following sections. Use these subheadings.

Objective- What is the purpose of this activity. Do not copy mine!!! Should be thorough and in paragraph form. Explain what you are building and give a little background about energy as it applies.

Materials- What was used to make the car and what equipment is necessary for any measurements.

Procedure- This is like a journal for this activity. Indicate how materials were assembled and then what changes were made to the original design based on the tests performed.Do this in a numbered sentence format NOT a paragraph.

Special note. You must submit as part of your procedure 3 photos ofyoubuilding your car in processes.

Results-You must also submit a video attached to the doc showing your car making the 10 feet (use a tape measure next to it). We will watch these the day of the final.

Discussion Questions-

  1. Explain the conservation of mechanical energy and how the scale of the “system” being evaluated is important to this. Hint: Consider work done by other processes. THIS IS NOT A SHORT RESPONE AND SHOULD TAKE AT LEAST A PARAGRAPH OR TWO.

  2. What are the energy transformations that occur in the mousetrap car?

  3. Explain how you could measure the stored energy in the motor. What has to be measured? Show calculations using the provided graph.

  4. Explain how to measure the kinetic energy of the car. What has to be measured? Show your calculations using data you collected.

  5. According to the Law of conservation of energy do you expect the KE and EPE to be the same? Use thenumbers from above to illustrate this. Why or why not

  6. Compare the source of energy of your car to that of a full sized combustion engine car, how are they different, similar?
